SSR1 destroying my finish?

i was using the lack country ccs soft green pad - not the coarse - as recommended by (Autogeek Buffing Pad Comparison Chart) that chart. my technique worked just fine with all the other products i used. AG has been very good and offered me a shipping label and sent me a new bottle that i will give a whirl and report back.

I trust that PB's is a good product, as i said i chose it due to the plethora of positive feedback everywhere i looked.

the car is a lexus is300, from 2003

Well there goes my only theory of what may have went wrong from your behalf. :D Let us know if the new bottle is any different, if you don't mind of course. :xyxthumbs:

I wonder why no one asked if you are doing IPA whipe downs between steps to evaluate the finish before SSR1? did i miss it?

This will remove fillers and oils left behind from the last product and give you a cleaner read on the paint.

I have gotten completely flawless finishes with a DA and the SSR line up so I know its possible. What kind of marring are you left with after the ssr1? I will say before I reach for ssr1 I use ssr 2 or 2.5 to until the swirls are gone and all that is left is the small "tick" marks seen as micromarring in DA polishing.

I found that a lot of pressure was needed to break down the polishes completely and would recommend against priming with instant detailer...

I always prime the pad by hand completely covering the pad with product before gettign started. Make sure you clean the pads after every section or 2 and change pads between large panels and reprime the fresh pad.

This is where doing one test sections will let you get your technique down before moving on

Here is some results with pb

IMO I understand fully. Of course, thats just my opinion. My experience wasn't a pretty one either. I had to literally start back over from scratch. I hit it with megs & menz, and the car came out flawless Im the MAN

Maybe I just had a bad batch also ;) IMO

i'm going to try a new batch - otherwise i have the wolfgang twins to give a try.

I tried SSR1 again with a little bit of advice taken from this thread. I figured if it didnt work out I had some menzerna polish that would fix it up. This time I worked the polish until it looked like it was basically...gone. No haze no nothing.

The results were a perfect swirl free high gloss shine. It took me longer than 5 minutes to completely break the polish down into nothing and to make it work properly.

Bottom line, it did the job nicely, but if it takes me 5 minutes or longer to do one 2'X2' section I'm gonna be working a very long time to polish one car.

I'm happy I was able to get SSR1 to work and come up swirl free with no micro marring, but at the same time I'm a bit disappointed. My menzerna polish breaks down in about half the time with the same results.

Also on a slightly off topic note...my SSR 2.5 has turned as thin as water. I dont even know if it's safe to use anymore.

Love poorboys products, but I think the SSR line falls a bit short of my expectations.

well i gave it another whirl with the new bottle and i had similar results....

i guess i was just not meant to use the stuff. I have been amazed with PB EX-P, PB Black Hole and various other products but this ssr1 is just not striking my fancy.

i compounded my friends miata with some MUC and got a nearly swirl free finish out of it:

so i popped open the SSR1, (i do love the smell) and put it on my soft green pad and went to town. first check point after 5 minutes or so:

second checkpoint after just shy of a decade:

so back to the MUC and coarse green pad to this:

and after my 3m 39009:

i feel bad having not so nice things to say about a widely trusted product like PB SSR series, but my experience has left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth :(.
