Hi all, 1st post, I've been visiting on this great site and I'm learning a lot. I have a 2006 Mazda3GT which I have been washing every week and waxing at least every 2 months(P21S). I'm thinking maybe it's time to start all over. From what I've read there comes a time when one should strip off all the waxings and start all over again. My car looks pretty damn good. If I do strip off all the wax and start over again do you think claying would be enough or should I use a polish OR clay then polish? I have never used a polish before and I do have a bottle of "Poorboy's Professional Polish" (which I bought before I really knew of all the choices). If I do polish would my PBs Professional Polish be OK to use in my situation? Meaning is it too harsh or not harsh enough, or just right for the job?

If you are wanting to strip off the old wax you should use your clay to get any contaminants off the surface. If the paint is relatively free of swirls the PP will be just what the doctor ordered to complete the stripping of old wax.

FWIW, PP can be very aggressive if an aggressive pad is used. The nice thing is that PP is a chemical stripper and can be used to do what you want to get done by using hand application or used with a PC or rotary. ProPolish is a very versatile product and amoung my favorites.

Great, thanks for the replies...Gotta love this site and the help/opinions and suggestions from u guys! By the way I'll be polishing by hand. The car doesn't seem to have any swirls, anyway I guess when I do PP it I should use gentle pressure? Foward and back strokes or circular? Thanks again!
 
I do everything with a strait back and forth motion. As far as pressure is concerned I would leave it to the product to do the work if you do not have any swirls. Apply thin but thorough layer. Let dry. Then wipe off with a clean MF towel. That is how I do it.
 
If you decide not to conquer polishing just yet, then consider a good paint cleaner like Pinnacle or P21S. Poorboys is quite a nice offering also, but best used with a machine.
