Well due to the poor economy I am leaving my regular job and going into detailing full time. Although the sense of security is nice on a 9-5 job, the market sucks right now and I think I would be better off as my own boss. This may give me more time to try out new stuff from Autogeek as well hehehehe.Im the MAN

Best of Luck ... the economy is rough for most employed so expect some speedbumps along the way.

Good luck, I hope all goes well. I left my job, not by choice.

as much as it sucks for people, i truly think this will allow the strong companies to thrive, and thus get some people back to work sooner than they may think...

now if we can get the govt to fix it as opposed to robbing us in the name of stimulus...

bryan, i think you have a great idea..

Hate to hear about your job, there are so,so many people now being affected by the economy, just hope and pray that each day will be better than the previous day, as for going full time into the detailing business full time, hats off to ya, sure beats drawing unemployment and your standing on your own two feet (literally....lol..) anyway, its tough in this business also, meaning people have re-prioritized their spending habits and are now much more frugal with their money.
My advice go above and beyond for your customers let them know how much you appreciate their trust and business, some of my repeat customers ever so often I will wash their car dress wheels absolutely free, just to let them know....I appreciate their business, its rewarding but it has put a strain on me and my family too, going from 10 to 15 cars a week down to about 7 a week now. Best of luck to you, I know you will knock'em dead.

You say the market sucks, were you in the stock market? Starting a detailing business during these tough times may not be easy. Good luck too you.

Best of luck and congrats for taking your future in your own hands. Yes...the economy is down, but it also creates opportunities for those willing to accept the risk. May success follow you.

The economy may be rough but there are people who want their cars to look good. You may have to give a little extra to build your clientele but it can be done. I do more washing than buffing using ONR and because I get the car looking good without scratching the paint I'm gaining business. When the economy picks up then people will get the more higher priced packages. It's already starting to happen here.

I work for Citi

nuff said

My wife was in-house counsel for Citi...good salary, benefits, close to home...and was laid off a few years ago. She decided to open her own law office and it's been a struggle getting started and going, but after two years it's become profitable, which has to be earned, not an entitlement. But...she's happier though the income level isn't there yet.

One of her biggest clients? Citi!

Bravo - good for you and good luck!! There will always be a market for quality detail work, especially the high-end vehicles. At least until the new administration outlaws them! Most of this bad economy is due to the fear-driven media and the continuous bad-mouthing of the country by the White House.

You will succeed.

Being in the automotive industy for over 30 years more and more new car dealers are closing and twice the amount of privately owned shops are closing. No one is fixing there older cars or buying newer ones.Hard to say how well anyone will do if they are connected to the auto business .I do wish you all the best and i hope to hear that your busy.We layed off at least 30 people and myself have taken over 35 grand in pays cuts so far.We are losing close to 500 grand a month in lost sales so far .It can't get any worst i keep saying, and i try to keep my guys postive and any customers that come in nothing short of kissing there A###S Happy . Once again knockem dead

Have you guys forgotten about the $13 a week you're going
to get under Obama's plan. Oklahoma is a small state, and I
read in the paper today that we spend $1.7 million a day on food stamps
alone?

Nothing compared too what is spent overseas for iraq and all.Obama has inherited alot of bush's problems .

Thanks for the support guys, although I am not new to Detailing, my business has been around for 3 years officially. I am taking the money and rigging a trailer up and picking up a few equipment items, should be just under 10000 dollars. And yes, if you are good, there will always be demand for your services, so keep your heads up as well gents.

I think detailers will take a hit in this economy, hell I believe everybody is. However there will always be people who have the means to pay for a detail, maybe not as many people as in the past but there will always be a market. Another viewpoint is that people are keeping their old cars instead of buying new so there might be a better market for people who want to make their old car look good again! It might not be "high end" details but it is still work.

You might have to tighten the belt but with great customer service you should be fine. Just keep your customers!

Hey Bryan make sure you post pictures of your trailer! I am in the process of purchasing one my self and will do the same.

David
