Ive been doing some digging and have come across a bunch of different steam cleaners but I have yet to really grasp which one should be the one to get. Im torn between a few.... from the optimas to vx5000's to even McCulloch. Lend me some knowledge!!

VX-5000 - only because we use two everyday and they get the job done - they are our top tool alongside the cyclo IMO - VX-5000 has allowed us to ..... steam carpets, upholstery, blast cracks, clean rims, thorough clean jambs, detail engines, etc. We have mastered steam in auto detailing and it out weighs most other detailing tools IMO when understanding the ability of the tool.

Its funny how you are the first one to comment as I just got done reading a post you wrote about steam cleaners! haha. The VX5000 is really your go to hunh? Do you use specific attachments to separate what you use for say Door Jambs/Engines where there can be a lot of grease and grime than what you use on carpet and upholstery? Or do you have 1 steamer for specific things?

The steamer has many attachments - we use the "tri" head nozzle with the small triangular brush head for carpets and upholstery - then we use the "single" head attachment by itself to blast out any cracks and crevices, also used on engines, and jambs. This atachment blasts a significant amount of steam in a concentrated area to allow maximum cleansing ability. When the tri head attachment and/or small triangular brush head has been used beyond capability - we use the large triangular head for carpet and upholstery. Hope this helps!

Do u use the steamer for exterior use. Like doing the whole exterior of vehicle

I love my Dupray cause of the size and the attachments that come with it. There warranty is great and customer service is great all so.

The VX 5000 is a good machine for the price but Dupray is an awesome machine. I agree with Tony that it is an incredible tool for detailing. Very versatile.

No sir - I couldn't imagine doing the entire exterior with the vx5000.... there are bigger and more powerful steamers that cater to that need though.... the vx has been an awesome all around mid size steamer in performance.

I have done a number of exteriors with the Dupray. I agree that the VX 5000 would be strained to do a full exterior detail. It is still a great tool.

+1 on the VX5000. cant really compare it to other steamers, but it cuts down time and is more effective than doing a full on interior with chemicals and brushes.

although i still use brushes, the steam gets 90% of everything

quick, effective, versatile, safe, a bit costy, but great quality, professional

The VX-5000 has been on the top of my must get list for a while. Whenever I can swing the extra money I will get it. Worst case, if you don't do detailing with it, you can use it around the house cleaning things.

I am a hobbyist detailer and can recommend the VX-5000 100%. There are other manufactures as well such as Dupray and Daimer that I'm sure have great products that are well suited for detailing.

I will say that if you are mainly wanting to do interior work the VX-5000 does everything with ease. Steam can clean very effectively but can also cause damage if you over do it. So keep that in mind.

I have tried to steam the engine area a bit. I find that degreaser and water is more effective for me instead of the VX-5000.

I'm sure, folks who work on all sorts of vehicles may find more uses for exterior use for steamers. Since I detail one vehicle my use is limited to steaming door jambs, and rubber seals. Other than that, it is strictly an interior tool for me.

I will say, I am pleased with the VX-5000 that I purchased from Renny Doyle from Attention to Details. Just using the unit on my driveway which is concrete the upgraded hose is a real help. Probably more importantly the how to video I received from Renny along with chemical recommendations were even more valuable to me a newbie to steaming.

Best of luck with your choice and future steaming!

I have the diamer and I am still trying to figure out what this can and can not do. I need steam cleaning 101 to figure out the best way to use it. Spec wise it is more powerful than the VX.

I have a Vapor Clean Unilux 3000 thats good, but I don't use it anymore so its sitting in the closet.
