Steel Wool on chrome

Isn't that the stuff the crackheads use in their crackpipes?!?!?!? Probally explains why it is so hard to find

Lol just need to go to the hood.....you can find that stuff anywhere and the stuff your talking about is way to coarse to use on wheels haha

I would suggest getting some meguiars wheel brightener for something like that next time. The 0000 steel wool does work well though.

U can use bronze wool also on chrome I use it on my motorcycle and it works great

You sure seem to know what you're talking about

Please don't use crack pipe copper. They typically use the copper scouring pads used for cleaning dishes. That stuff probably isn't safe for chrome. It works great for its intended purpose of cleaning dishes and filtering crack.

Do you think wheel brightener is strong enough if two rounds of iron x didn't cut it?

-Yes.

1. Meg's Wheel Brightener contains Ammonia BiFlouride, which, when it comes in contact with moisture becomes: HF Acid...quite an effective 'cleaner; but, clearly, quite hazardous to one's health, to say the least!
2. IronX contains acetic acid (may morph into oxalic acid)...not nearly as harmful, or effective as a 'cleaner', as HF acid.
-And, I thought, IronX was used mainly as a: 'ferrous-contaminates remover/decon system'.

Thanks for the tip! Even if it did scratch the chrome IMO it would still be better then leaving the wheel the way it was!

I have often been told brass wool (quad 0) is a better choice over steel wool as it doesnt leave some metal particles on surface. Anyone care to comment since brass wool is harder to find ??
Thats a good tip thanks Im going to try it.

Thanks for the thorough answer and explaining the differences Bob!
I assumed the contaminants left were ferrous however it appears they were not. I'll have to put some in my next order.

Used this today on my HORRIBLE looking tips. VERY crusted on soot.

0000 Steel wool and mothers chrome polish and boom! Perfect

Glad u had nice results it's probably a good combo with mothers polish.
