When you guys are working on a car and your combo (pad and polish) isnt getting the job done, how do you decide whether to switch to a more aggressive pad, or polish?

The key here is to do a test patch and see what the combo is doing to the paint. Then its time to either make a pad change with the same product you are using,or get a more aggressive polish with the same pad . Now some times you MIT have to go over the area 2 or 3 times with your chosen combo. Some times you can get to aggressive then you can burn the finish or make more problems for correcting later. To make a long story short you want the the latest combo you can use to make your corrections. Hope this will help you/GOOD LUCK

I would think it would depend on how many steps you are doing. Say for example you have light swirls and do something like Optimum Polish on a polishing pad, but it doesn't get all the swirls. At this point I think a change to a light cut pad would be preferred so you can stick with the Polish as one step. If you instead change to Optimum Compound for more cut, you run the risk of it not finishing down as well and having to do another step.

I agree with Grimm, it all depends on what the customer wants and what you, as the detailing person are willing to do. If you are doing full correction then wool pads are a must and know that once you use wool pads there will be additional steps. Of even just heavy cutting with a foam pad you will still require additional steps. This is something I learned quickly because every time I detail a vehicle I want to remove every single scratch and I was getting really frustrated that I wasn’t able to remove some scratches. So now I'm playing around with wool pads and wool pads are wicked.....well hope this helps.

Well Im going to be doing a Ford truck here soon. Last time I saw it the swirls were pretty bad. So I was planning on going with XMT 3 with light cutting pad (Edge orange), then XMT 360 with polishing pad (Edge blue). I guess if the XMT 3 and orange pad doesnt work, then Ill try the Edge green pad. Then Liquid Souveran will get applied with the Edge Red pad.

Hopefully this is correct, it says the Edge green pad is more aggressive then the Edge orange pad. The Edge Dual Action Starter Kit
