I am planning to apply Collinite 845 Sealant to my car before it gets too cold here. It will be my first time apply any sort of sealant/wax by myself. Sadly I don’t have money and know how to use DA polisher so is it okay if I apply by hand? If applying by hand what kind of pads do I need? Someone recommended me this: WAX POLISH FOAM PAD APPLICATOR SPONGES TIRE DRESSING | eBay. Sadly i wont be ordering from AG as I need the stuff asap and also shipping kills me here in canada. So I would be buying from this site as its located in my city: AUTO OBSESSED. Also Ill be applying collinite in my garage so now a days temperature is 10 degrees Celcius. Any idea how long I should leave it on before it haze?

Do i need to use masking tape if i am applying only sealant?
Do i have to use some sort of prewax cleaner?
Do i need to leave sealant on for 12 hours before i buff it off?
Should i do two coats of collinite or one coat of collinite and another coat of some sort of
carnuba wax like zaino?

Thanks i hoping for good replies :)

The red applicators look cool !
Bet they are the same foam as Lake Country red foam. they are very gentle and can spread wax thin on your car.
If the temperature is 10*C, keep the wax bottle in some warm water to make the consistency thin like milk, then shake it real good as you apply the wax. last time I think I shake it for 10 minutes.

1. no there is no need to tape up your car. be careful with the edges, trims etc.
2. It is always good to do the full step: clay, polish, wax. among all the pre-wax steps, clay is the most important IMO.
3. no, just wipe 845 off after 30 minutes when it is dry. swipe test is the key word.
4. collinite 845 is an excellent product. looks good and have super durability. it is a personal preference.

Try the 845 on a small test panel first. it can be a pain to remove for some users.
spray quick detailer is your friend if you cant remove it easily, or mist some onto your pad to help in spreading a thin layer.

feel free to PM me if you got questions.

Just to clarify something, the Zaino line aren't waxes - they are all sealants. If you're planning on using them, it'd be best to do so under 845, not on top of it.

Read above post for all your questions but in short, make sure the 845 is warmed, thin like milk and shaken well. Apply in very thin even layers, let it haze and buff off. Have fun and good luck.

Thanks for all ur replies. I did read that collinite thread before opening this one :).

A month ago i clayed my car and paint prep using "Griots Piant Prep" but i never applied any wax or sealant as i didnt have any at that time. So now i dont think i need to clay my car again? Do i need to apply Paint prep again?

What type of pre sealant cleaner do i need to apply?
Thanks

If you clayed and used a paint prep, but didn't wax or seal right after then I would assume a repeat may be in order, unless your car sat in a garage covered.

the car will be oxidized if u strip everything but doesnt have protection to seal it up

What's difficult to determine is the actual condition of the finish and the appropriate next steps.

Ideally the finish should be washed, clayed, and polished prior to applying a sealant or wax. The final results are only as good as the preparation beforehand.

If you've clayed and prepped the paint a month ago a simple wash is probably all you need before applying a wax or sealant. If you do decide to perform a cleaning step using something like Four Star paint cleaner prior to applying a sealant or wax.

If you've read the Collinite 845 thread then you have the basics and can move forward from here...

I thought 845 didn't stain trim?

step one, make sure you do not get any 845 on black trim....
I actually use 845 on trim. It makes it look new, and lasts a very long time. As long as you wipe on / wipe off it does not stain. Always do a test spot though because I am sure some types of trim react differently.

I taped off any plastic trim first as a precaution but my pad did end up hitting the black plastic side view mirror and I had no staining or white residue

Same with me - I use 845 on trim, wipe-on, wipe-off. No staining, has a nice darkening effect, and lasts just as long on trim as on paint.

Yeah, I have intentionally applied 845 to my trim & mirror housing and never seen whitening occur later on. I would def check the paints cleanliness after a washing to see if anything has bonded to it within a month. Doing the baggy test and applying a pre-wax cleanser will show you what you are dealing with. In my experience w/ 845 it has some clean ability. In the future I would not do all the wax prep and end up leaving the paint unprotected. You could have at least applied some OTC Meg's or Mother's carnauba. I have never had any problems removing 845 even after it sitting for an hour or so. It is one of the cheapest, easiest application, longest lasting wax out there IMO. Have fun, and try calling AG to see what they may be able to do for you on shipping price and time.:)

Just received my collinite 845 today. Can it also be applied on my alloy wheels?
