stick with fk 1000p or pick up Powerlock?

i've been using FK1000p topped with 845 for a while and was wondering if Powerlock topped with Colorlock or 845 would be a better combo for increased durability?

This is a subject that has different schools-of-thought...
Along with their proponents' various opinions.

In order to not be seen as trying to impose my layering/topping value system:
I'll suggest to first do a: "side-by-side test"...
on your vehicle's hood. For example:

•1/2 hood using FK1000p and Collinite #845
•1/2 hood using Menzerna PowerLock and Collinite #845

This way...
You, then, can be the sole arbiter of what provides the better results for your stated purpose.

Note:
IMO...
Using Menzerna Colorlock would skew these "test" results.

I am not familiar with FK1000 but I am with Menzerna Power Lock. It is IMO one of the best sealants out there. I would do a side by side like FUNX725 says.
That would make your decision easier.
 
I know this isn't completely solid logic, but I've always thought you could top a sealant with a wax, but you can't always top/layer a wax onto another wax with the same efficiency in terms of layering thickness.
I assume one wax will just re-moisten the wax below when attempting to layer.
 
Forget about that extra step. It's completely unnecessary. And believe me I love my 845....Trust me when I say go with power lock and leave it. This is the best sealant on the market. And I based that opinion on ease-of-use and depth of Gloss. Remember one thing, apply a very thin layer. I actually use my 3" backing plate with a finishing pad stuck to it. The stem (threaded part) is quite comfy in the hand. ...First I cover the hood, moved to the back and do one or two small panels by then you're ready to buff the hood off. for a product this good you would think it would be more difficult to use it or at least tricky requiring some particular series of steps....nope....cake.
 
I have no experience with Menzerna, but a lot with FK1000p and Colli. FK1000p, IMO, has outstanding durability, but it doesn't doesn't seem to look good for long. After trying it on a few DD's, I've kept it around strictly for wheels. In that role it's superb, protecting almost indefinitely, even on German cars that are horrible brake dusters. Over the past winters, I've tried combinations with Colli 845 and 476. Two coats of either one will get me through a winter in PA, but the most durable combo I've used so far is with Duragloss 105 or 111 mixed 4:1 with DG 601, then topped with Collinite. Last winter I used 476 over the 105/601 mix in October, finally renewing it in June just 'cause I felt guilty. This year I'm trying DG111/601 with Colli 915 for a little extra "pop". We'll see how it looks in the spring, but I expect it will still be holding up well.
I know this didn't answer your question, but having tested quite a bit on DD's parked outside 24/7 through PA winters, i just thought I'd share my experiences.

i put in my order for Powerlock. i'll try it out tomorrow on a black Nissan GTR and see how it looks.
 
all i have to say is WOW. i got my Powerlock today and tried it out on a GTR i'm polishing. i applied it with a 4 inch black pad on my PC, let it haze and removed. the results were amazing!!!!! super easy to apply and removed. looks like we have a keeper.

I ordered mine the other day during the 20% off sale, now the UPS wait begins. ~1 week coast to coast.
 
I still like Bob's suggestion...do both approaches side by side and wait for the durability to display itself. Your original question indicated to me you might want to try both approaches anyway. Just saying...

i will do a side by side when my car needs to be waxed. for now i'll be using Powerlock on customer cars.
 
Have not had a chance to use it yet, but a member over on Autopia uses FK1000. One thin coat on clean paint then a second a week later and he gets a year on a DD that sits outside 24/7
 
You cant beat Power Lock or 915 in looks or durability. Whoever uses either is hooked for life.
 
Stick with 1000p, I can't stand that greasy film that power lock leaves behind.
