Heard today was the day. Bank systems and on-line banking were crashed. So called direct. $1200 DD in the account as of this morning. I am one of the lucky ones to still be working. So this money will just be banked. Paper checks will go out early next week.

Got mine today and like you, it's being banked

In the US, if you fall within a certain income threshold you will receive a payment from the government due to many people being out of work from the corona virus pandemic. The money is supposed to help "stimulate" the economy. There are exceptions to this just like anything else, such as if you owe child support.

30% are going to spend it on housing, not sure how much that's going to stimulate the economy but it's going to keep a roof over ones head, important for sure.

Just another band-aid shot in the dark by a clueless, out of touch government. People in some parts of the country who are not hard-hit, and have low housing costs, will benefit from this.
But, for people in high-risk/high-cost areas (NY e.g.), this money is about half of what some need for housing and food for 1 month.

I don' know why people that are employed are receiving stimulus checks. Especially if they are banking it (not stimulating the economy). This should really be going to people that need it to survive due to being unemployed. I just don't agree w the way the money is distributed. I know attorneys that make close to six figures working part time and are getting money back. I don't feel this is the best use of the money. I think people that need it should get it, and not flat out giving it to everyone. If that's the case, they should give it to everyone. I'd buy a family a months worth of food if they gave me one, I wouldn't bank it unless I really needed it.

And let me add to this if you don’t mind...there’s a lot of people that do not “need” this as much as others since they’re still working and earning a paycheck or they have enough to get by on. Saying for a friend!

There was no time to "Fine tune" the package. It had to be an "all or nothing".

The government is not set up to give away money, so they have no clue how to do it other than yearly IRS refunds.

They are set up to take money, and they are deadly proficient at doing that.

I agree they had to get it out in a rush. But the two weeks they spent arguing about the dumb crap before finally signing it they could have spent time to make it better. This is a time to put politics aside and take care of your citizens. Not sneak in political agendas or try to win popularity contests. Just give it to the people that need it. People that claimed for unemployment got it within a week. My mom, my father-in-law, my cousins, all of them started getting unemployment benefits the week after they applied. They (meaning the gov't) could have set this up that if you are claiming unemployment, they include you in the stimulus program. I know its easier said then done, I just don't like the way they give it flat out to everyone that makes under a certain level of income. Its like giving some people a bonus.

I agree with you 100%.

But, in this day and age, there can never be anything truly all about the people and free of political agendas.

Ahh, okay thank you for explaining that team. :xyxthumbs:

I guess it’s kinda along the same lines as what’s happening down here. We are currently 11:30am Thursday morning - day one of our 4th week in lockdown. Only Essential businesses have been allowed to operate over the last 4 weeks & for the most part that has been Supermarkets (not green grocers or butcher shops) Pharmacies ... drug stores I think for you guys State side, Gas Stations, Medical Centres & some trades like electricians & plumbers etc are allowed to do selected essential work.

Even Online purchases are limited to Essential Items - you cannot shop online & buy a Polisher, Lounge Suit or Clothes shopping for instance.

There are heavy travel restrictions - freight is classed as essential, we have NO domestic (& virtually no International) air travel & you’re not allowed to be driving around without a purpose.

We closed the shop down this time three weeks ago & apart from the odd bicycle ride around the block with the young fella I haven’t left our property ....

So .... geeze, I went on a bit of a rant there huh!

We applied for the Government Subsidy which was made available for businesses to pay staff etc over the lockdown period. So for me, I haven’t any staff so I got the $585 NZ a week for twelve weeks, paid out in total. Not much at all but something. I would rather have kept working & could certainly do so with little to no contact with anyone & kept earning without the need for the subsidy but alas, I am not allowed.

Now, employees (I won’t be able to explain all the intricate details of part time/full time etc but bear with me) also receive the $585 NZ but their employer must top that up to at least 80% of their standard wage. Hope this made sense.

Lots of businesses down here have been closing up, done & dusted. Just simply cannot take the hit, & it seems it’s not just the smaller guys either, some bigger guys have fallen too.

Me, well at the start I was shattered. I thought this is it, the shop is done. I don’t make a huge amount of money, I’m merely a guy that details for fun & gets paid, we have never treated the shop as a proper money making business ... right or wrong, that’s how it is. As the first week of lockdown went by I started to relax a little more, thinking - it’s out of my control, & if we go down, we won’t be the only ones & more importantly to me - it wasn’t because I was #### at detailing.

Are we out of the woods yet? No. We are however lucky in the fact that apart from the shop lease, insurance etc, you know, the normal bills - we don’t actually owe anyone any proper money. If lockdown continues & we end up getting evicted from the shop, well I can at least detail most things from home .... although tools storage may be an issue ...

Ange is still working (Essential) but mostly from home & that helps a bunch. Fingers crossed that next week I can open the shop again & get back into it ... wish me luck.

Apologies for the :offtopic: rant, I would delete most of that & just get to the point but it took me ages so ... nope. :props:

Tell that to the orange guy who demanded that his name appear on the checks despite the fact that he is not a legal signator for them.

Rant on, Aaryn!!

We need a rant thread, anyway! Lol
