Stop using tire dressing !!!

Your post came off as disrespectful, and the comment towards my car had nothing to do with the recommendations I made. I don't make commission or get a cookie from selling you tire dressing, I was SHARING my own knowledge. Opti-Bond is one of my favorite dressings, and there are tons of people on here that feel the same way, which is why I suggested that you try it.

Surely you can understand why I might have thought you were trying to sell me something ? This site sells supplies, it's autogeek, your screen name is [email protected] . It would seem that you work for them... do you see the correlation ?

You also must understand, I've done detailing for almost 17 years, I've bought and tried just about everything out there. I've found what works best for me and my clients, and mind you I have alot of clients with $500,000 cars and up, and trust me when I say these clients don't want that "wet look" on their tires... it's not what looks factory or like a racecar in their minds. Several of my clients are Billionaires, one with 11 ferrari's he keeps in his garage he calls a stable , another has 60 highend cars in his collection. Both do not want shiny looking tires, they want a matte factory looking tire. So I tend to do what these clients want.

I can tell you , the cars I've prepped for the Pebble Beach Concours D' Elegance, one of the highest end shows in the world, those collectors and buyers of those cars , don't want shiny tires either.

So again , I wasn't trying to step on your toes, just before you offer a suggestion to someone, make sure you know whom your suggesting things to. And with that I'm not trying to be better than you, I just know whats up with this topic and what High End clients want for their cars.

I'll apologise , now for saying anything you might construe from this posting as an insult. I really mean to hopefully only educate some folks on detailing tricks, like this section on the site suggests.

I was referring to what you see all the car wash chains and other "Detailer's" do

Does this mean everyone on this board falls into this category?

besides I've used leather conditioner for years on most of the close to 5,000 cars I've detailed

Sounds like a closed-minded individual who is afraid to think outside the box. A creature of habit and afraid of change.

As for the other's replies, you did come off pretty strong for this being one of your first posts. Coming on a detailing forum and basically demanding that everyone stop using tire dressings is not the way to win praise and get the respect you may deserve. You immediately make everyone want tune you out and not listen to anything you may have to offer. This, of course, is just my opinion.

Colin

This, :iagree:

the only tire dressing i use is optimum. the reg version. leaves a nice look with no sling . but i heard there discontinuing this .. that sucks. i heard the optibond is the onlyone there going tocarry. hope itsnot true. but this is what i heard.

Sounds to me like you have no clue about tire dressings. There are a lot of water based dressings out there that do not have much of a shine and simply leave a matte and protected finish on tires. I like using Meguiars Hyperdressing 3:1 on tires.

You were a bit rude IMO as well.

OK, point taken. Not everyone here is prepping cars for Pebble Beach, but that's besides the point. How about recommending a specific leather conditioner to use to get this thread back on topic? There are many and I'm sure some behave differently than others. :)

I'm sorry but now I'm aggravated and this has nothing to do with me. Just because you have several clients who oppose tire dressing does not mean that you have the right to start blasting everyone that their clients enjoy tire dressing. I'm glad you have been detailing for 17 years, have clients with money that keep you busy, and claim to have tried everything out there, but in the end sir you are being really nasty to not only our community but the people who sponsor this forum. Just because Matt works at Autogeek doesn't mean that he is trying to sell you something by recommendation. At this point you come off as a direct representation of your clients, people I do not wish to be associated with. When you first started posting, I thought to myself "great, another detailer who has been around a while and may have some good advice", now I honestly don't care to read anymore of your threads. Good day.

I didn't mean all other "detailers" on this forum, Man you folks are so sensitive....I meant other detailers in the world , like car wash detailers.

I'm not close minded or afraid of change, I just know what works well , so why change what works well, "Don't fix it if it ain't Broke" !

I apologize for ever even thinking about trying to help anyone with my experience on this site. I see that too many are way to sensitive to whats being said. I also see that folks here take things the wrong way and when they read a post , think it's a personal attack on them as an individual.

I can see that I won't be here for long, based on the sensitivity of the folks here

Sir, it's not a fact that people here are sensitive, what is happening is you started a thread with a harsh tone and continue to have a harsh tone. Yes it is difficult to read emotions through text and we all understand that, but your choice of words in this thread do not help alleviate the problem at all.

K, you were warned, now you can take a day vacation. With that said, nothing useful came from this thread, so I'm going to close it.
