A high quality and functional storage solution is a must-have for any serious detailer, whether he (or she) is a Pro or a Weekend Warrior. This is especially true for the mobile detailer who must "take the show on the road." He must have something that will hold all of his essentials, plus any extras that he may need for those unforeseen detailing problems that could crop up, yet at the same time, must not be too big, heavy and cumbersome. And above all it must be PROFESSIONAL.
To a lesser degree, I too fit into that mobile detailer category. My condo unit does not allow detailing on the property, so to get around that particular problem I must do my washing and waxing off-site. That includes my wife's car as well. But therein lies the problem. I was happy with the storage container I presently have. It wasn't pretty or elegant by any stretch of the imagination, but it got the job done:
I knew that I could do better. So I hit the web, and, after weeding out all of the candidates, finally decided on the storage unit that fits my needs perfectly:
BUT, therein lies yet another problem. Currently my budget is geared more towards additional MF's and a cordless blower, which would make my life MUCH easier while drying the car. Those annoying drips can be quite bothersome, especially when waxing.
Sadly, the ULTIMATE storage solution that I've sought after for many weeks won't find it's way into my life anytime soon. First things first. More MF's and that cool cordless blower I've been practically drooling over for the past several months:
Ultimately, I WILL get AG's Detailer's Bag, but for the time being, I needed a temporary solution. I needed something that had both form and function. So I decided to rummage around my closet and see what I could find. And lo and behold, I found it! It's a bag I purchased off a military/police website several years ago, and have used it only occasionally. I decided that this would be great, temporary solution for my mobile storage problem, and adapted it for my storage needs. It is known by many names: Tactical bag, shooter's bag, bail-out bag, bug-out bag, etc.
It is a modestly sized bag, approximately 11"H x 15"W x 5"D. It is constructed of 600 denier cordura, which is more water and tear-resistant than other materials, especially canvas and cotton duck. It has a plethora of pouches and compartments located on the front, back and sides.

Main compartment
Front pouches open
Side pouch, right. There is an identical pocket on the left side. These 2 pockets are big enough to hold a single 1-liter bottle of water. Or in my case, a bottle each of Opti-Bond and ONR.
Back large compartment
Back small compartment
Goal: To fit all of this into that bag. Wish me luck!
As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of sample size bottles. There are several reasons for this. 1) They're small and compact. 2) They're relatively inexpensive as compared to the larger sized bottles. 3) If for whatever reason the product does not fit my needs, or does not perform as I expected, I can feel reassured I did not pay for the full size bottle and have the unused portion go to waste. It's all about economics.
Here's a quick rundown of the products:
ONR.
OCW.
Opti-Bond. (transferred to a 16 oz. self-cleaning bottle)
PB's Natty's Blue.
DP glass cleaner.
DP interior protectant.
Wolfgang interior protectant.
Pinnacle paintwork cleansing lotion.
2-LC CCS Eurofoam white hand pads.
2-LC CCS Eurofoam red hand pads.
4-Cobra Gold Plush Jrs, 16" x 16". (2 are not pictured....awaiting batch washing)
5-P*****k Ultra Plush, 16" x 16".
Mission accomplished! Well, kinda sorta

Everything fit perfectly, but I ran into a slight snag while trying to fit my small collection of MF's. Well, perhaps the word 'overstuffing' might be a better word. I had to place the MF's into a plastic bag and literally squeeze the living heck out of them to make them more compact. Obviously this is not ideal, since overstuffing a bag could result in broken zippers, or worse yet, broken detailing products.
Summation: This is a great bag that will hold me over until I've saved enough to purchase AG's Detailer's Bag. It has enough room and compartments to hold and separate the products I use on a regular basis. I'm sure that the designers of this bag did not quite intend it to hold car detailing 'stuff', but sometimes you have to improvise, and I think this Tactical Bag works out quite nicely. For the time being, at least.
Don't you all agree that's it's a much better solution than an empty kitty litter container?
Hmmm. I wonder. If Meghan, Mike or any of the other moderators see's this review, would they send me the AG Detailer's Bag to review? I've already seen one review, and it was a great review by a pro. But if I'm allowed to do a one, I think it might appeal to the crowd of weekend warriors and avid hobbyists. Any chance of that happening, Meghan or Mike? *Sigh* We can all dream big dreams, right?
BTW, in case you're wondering what I'm placing in the rear small compartment, here it is. It's my low-tech way of blowing water out of the nooks and crannies. It's cheap, can be found at any supermarket, and it works. LOL
Happy Detailing, everyone! And Happy Valentine's Day!
