Strange observation on DG 105

Ok...I am done here..I was doing a starter for the ATV..I finished the carb early today...

OK here is the scoop...I was very curious about the Marine products for use on cars....I asked them before about them and I got yes they can be used on cars..but no real specifics...

Today I got the low down.....

the 501 polish...was told it is best cleaner/polish they make...stronger than 101...it has more cleaner in it but also more sealant than 101... is very slick to repel oil and algae ..will make a great base for 105 or 111...also close to the durability of 105....plus micro abrasives like 101 to burnish a high gloss..

the Marine Shampoo....good for cars also..it has a bit more cleaner in the soap...but also more polymers....will not remove any sealants...has a high gloss also...

the Marine protectant...I just got some of this...it is detergent resistant...has water repellent in it...and a sunscreen to prevent fading ..can be used on trim..interiors....tires...rubber trim....said it lasts a long time....will not wash off

the Marine Detailer...this one sounded nice..it is a cleaner..and a sealant ..it is very slick to retard mildew and mold growth...anti static...highly water repellent...lasts on a average of 3-4 weeks...and again detergent resistant..would be nice for the in between AW uses...I forgot this..can be used like a waterless wash...sorta like PB's S&W

All in all I was told the Marine line is a little more potent than the auto line due to the conditions boats endure...they all have extra UV protectors also...

so my next order is the Detailer to try out and the 501 marine polish as a AIO

if 501 is stronger than 101 as a cleaner and more protection..that's more bang for the buck...

no new stuff coming...just fiddling on improving what they have now

Thanks for the run down AL. I will have to start stocking some DG in my trailer now!:)

Had my DG#105 since Jan./Feb. It's a very light purple.
Still works well. I used it on a white Chey P/U last week and looked great.

Sparkie....I am going to do the trim..tires and interior with the Marine Protectant today....will post up the afters when done...I did just the mirrors on the truck since they take the beating in rain..and its worked great so far....no streaking and looks like it was just applied....and had 2 washings also....

Al, I use the AW and was so impressed with ease of use,I picked up some more for my Dad. Can you give me a shopping list of DG? Basically I want to add another set of product s to try. From a good polish (both of my cars are in good shape, and I have a great selection of pads for the PC) to a sealer, to end with AW.

Thanks

DG does not make a real correction polish..just stuff to do lite work....

there products called polishes are really sealants..like the 101..105 and 111 and the 501 marine....

for me I would get a paint protection system first....
101 to clean the paint..it does do lite correction also...like minor swirls ..and does add a sealant....gives a nice wet look and really cleans the paint nice...

then top it with 105..its one nice product....super durability....nice deep wet look....slick as hell and lasts a long time....

I am going to try the Marine 501 as a cleaner type product soon...suppose to be like 101 but heavy duty...it cleans very good and has a strong sealant also...safe for paint...no worries there...I may switch over from 101 to this if proven good....

then get Fast Clean and Shine as a QD to clean between washings...or after a wash ..very slick stuff and adds a nice gloss...

Use AW monthly to add another coat of sealant..as you know..its slick and has a great finish to it....very wet look..it lasts also...

so for a paint system...

101 clear coat cleaner and polish...they call them polish but really a sealant..just old school terminology

105 total performance polish for the sealant..nice stuff...super slick and lasts

912 Fast Clean and Shine...thats a good start..you have AW already...

Looks like AG needs to put a Duragloss package together per Al and Sparkie.

And don't say buy one of everything Sparkie, but it is a good idea :D

Thanks again. The local carquest has a good selection of products, although I need to look at dates on some items. They do not carry the 912, but I will call them and see if they can order it for me. The AW was on sale last week @ 4.99, picked up a few more.

Sounds like their Marine products are the way to go! If safe on car finishes and last longer and work better, well, that's a no brainer. The only products I've tried of theirs is AW and Odor killer.......in which both are great products.

Thanks for coming off the info AL!!:D

Update: Got the marine protectant and applied it to my tires. After a little while, I could tell this stuff is going to be durable.....very nice look. I'll have to look at the durability and update later. I also go the Marine Detailer, which was super easy to use, made the paint VERY slick and glossy. Both seemed like excellent products for use on cars. Next is the 501 and marine wash!

Dengood1..I also tried the Marine protectant.....i used it on trim..interior and looked great..It seems to me it needs to sorta setup or cure ..it goes on shiny...dulls up for a bit and then comes back to a nice look...semi matte ...it dries nice...no streaks...

I tried a section on a tire to see what it looked like,,it was soso..but the tire was not cleaned....I just wanted to see how it went on and looks....after washing the tires and using it again it was much better.....the water rolls right off them and it has a nice look....

now the trim thats been done has not streaked at all with any rain we had...

I also used it on window rubbers,...and door seals...its a nice product for the money....and looks great....

I got the same exact results.....tires look decent, not the best thing I've used on them, but they look decent and you're right, it does seem to need to "cure". I'll have to see about the durability too.

Al and Dennis, please keep us updated. I look forward for your reviews.

After reading this thread yesterday I went out and got 5 new DG products to check out. I went to my local Carquest and asked if anything was on sale and he offered to give me the stuff at cost!! I saved about $25 on 5 items!

Here is my reaction to each:

#201 (Leather and Vinyl): Used this on my doors that are part leather, part rubber/vinyl. Really nice stuff. It softened the leather and gave a nice bright clean look to the other parts. Nice smell too. Recommended!

#221 (Leather conditioner): Used this on the seats. Rubbed it in by hand and it had the most noticable immediate softening properties of any leather product I've used to date. Has a nice leather smell to it and isn't oily. Recommended!

#321 (Non-silicone dressing). Used on my tires. Made them VERY black and new looking. Certainly not flat matte but not glossy either. Just right. And this is from a long time gloss/silicone user. I am sold.

#531 (Marine/RV protectant): Used on my black dash. Figured it might make a cheaper alternative to 303 Aerospace given all the UV protection it claims. Went on and made the dash look really matte -- almost gray. Seemed splotchy and I didn't like it. I ended up covering it w/ some of the #321 and the dash looked great again. Need to find another use for this product....hmmm?

#681 (Plastic polish): used on headlights. Noticed a small improvement, although headlights weren't yellow or discolored to begin with. Didn't have a chance to try on instrument cluster, which is also in good shape. May be a worthwhile product.

All in all I was very pleased and I feel this is my go to OTC product line. I also have a bottle of #921 Fast Clean and Shine coming in the mail from a friend. Looking forward to trying that out.

I'd keep the #531 on the exterior(trim, tires, etc.) as it's made to weather the effects of the outdoors. :)

the Marine protectant as I said earlier..goes on shiny but hazes and then glosses up again..I said that it seemed like it had to cure..dry what ever it does..but after awhile it came back to life...

will try some pics later....raining out now....

It's raining here too. I have to go out for a little while here soon and want to see how the #531 marine protectant and the #521 marine quick detailer holds up in the rain. I must say that the 521 went on really easy and I felt instant slickness. No streaking at all....more of a QD than Aquawax although they smell EXACTLY the same, as a lot of the DG products do. I'll update later.....

Al-53: perhaps you could talk to DG and find out how similar the marine detailer is the FC&S? Or have you already asked them?

I asked....it is a stronger QD....with a little more of the gloss agents....some one here just used it....and said it was very good....or it may have been another forum...but look here...I thought it was here....I was told it was a little amped up Fast Clean and Shine...

here is a few pictures....not real good as no light it was just after todays rain...I tried a few other shots but was getting flash bounce and it faded the pics some...

here is the floor done in the Marine Protectant

IMG_6411.jpg

the center area...the dash would not come out good from the flash...

IMG_6412.jpg

and the outside mirror....this is where I get streaks...but none...it was just after a rain today...

if the sun comes out I will try later
