I own a 2008 mitsubishi lancer , wich is a model with subpar carboard style carpet , I have embedded salt stains in it (vive le quebec) that just wont go out.

I have tried vacumming the big part out, drowning the salt in a demineralized water/ vinegar solution, vacuuming again -- steaming -- and even brake cleaner (i know not good).

My results were pretty poor at best.

but my removable carpet suffered the same affliction, I treated them with the water/vinegar and washed them in the washing machine, they came out looking new.

I am lost.

Might want to go to Canadian Tire and pick up Salt Eraser
Dry Shine - Salt Eraser
I live in Ontario and I used this in my old car. Worked great. just don't wait too long, by the end of March beginning of April this stuff fly's off the shevles everywhere. I know CT couldn't get anymore in once it was gone as it was in such supply around Canada. I relize this is Mikes area, but I wanted to help out a follow Canadian. Hope that's Ok ?

Try Folex (undiluted) or Krud Kutter @ 4:1. Both can be picked up at The Home Depot - Folex near cleaners and Krud Kutter near paint clean up.

salt eraser half worked when i tryed it last year.

Im going to check if home depot stock these product (if they dont have french translated bottles, they cant sell over here, i hope those products have translation on them)

How many times did you try it on the area ? I know it says if it doesn't completely remove it to try again. I had abut 3 years of salt built up in my old Impala and it took 3 cans to remove it completely. If it half worked then keep using it till it does, I wouldn't give up if it you only used it once, it did half work. Also there are alot more chemicals added to the salt mixtures up here now to make it work and stick to the road better. So now this stuff starting to become a pain in the butt to remove.

If worst comes to worst try a commerical cleaning company, something that sells industial cleaning supplies to school boards, arenas, etc. They should be able to order in or have a salt neutralizer cleaning soap for floors. I know when I use to work in the arena we had this stuff that came in 4L jugs. You could mop a salt covered floor and there was no sign that salt was even on the floor . Guys I worked with used it to remove the salt stains in there cars. Worked awesome, and it was not harmful.
