I am working on a black 2007 Subaru Legacy. Three years worth of swirls and defects. I have been using Optimum Hyper spray compound with an orange Griots Pad and Flex 3401. I'm spending too much time to remove the defects. Is Subaru paint known to be hard?
Any comments would be appreciated!

Thnx

For what it's worth, I have a 2000 Outback. Discounting the nasty rock pings (got behind a gravel truck in a wind storm), I' have to say 'soft.' It (the paint) seems to work out nicely.

I'm using a PC with LC pads and all Meguiars...if that is any help.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe the Hyper spray compound doesn't have as much cut as I expected (first time using it).

Are you sure what you are seeing in the way of defects are not being instilled by the compound? Have you done a test section from start to finish first? Any pics? I don't mean to sound insulting. Just curious as you haven't mentioned any other pads or products.

The problem I have is removing the RIDs. All other marring is gone. I follow up with a white pad and Optimum spray polish. Looks very good after that. It is just taking a long time and many passes to get rid if the RIDs. Sorry, I didn't take any photos.

Probably just hit it with m105 followed by m205. the rids should be gone in no time. but as tuscarora dave said, make sure to do a test spot.

I don't like to use generalities but in my experience (I've owned over 9 WRXs,STIs, and other Subarus, as well as detailed many of them) they all have had ridiculously soft clears. They will swirl up on you if you look at them wrong.

I just polished an Outback over the weekend, paint was soft to my surprise. I have a Legacy coming up and I'm excited because of how easy it should be to polish!

My 05 Saab 92x (impreza) has ridiculously soft paint, although it doesn't seem THAT easy to damage (Unless you're a flying rock, it holds up to road debris like soft cheese holds up to a jackhammer.) It takes about 10 bad wash jobs to show up. 105 and tangerine hydro on a DA makes REAL short work of it. I can probably do the entire car in the time it takes me to correct the rear deck of my chevy :|
