Suggest me a good clay bar...

Has anyone tried both Griots Paint Cleaning Clay and Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay? I was wondering which one was finer grade so I could reduce the chance of marring.

My personal opinion on marring with clay... I don't see how it happens unless the paint is extremely soft. The Griot's clay is pretty mild, tends to stretch out a lot when I'm using it and Griot's claims it won't remove any wax or sealant. I've never used the Pinnacle clay, though, mostly because it's a lot of money for less clay.

100% agree, as a matter of fact Griot's Clay is one of the mildest.

Just landed myself a new detailing job next Sunday! :D I'm working on the big wig's son's Mazdaspeed3. Just a wash, dry, clay, maybe some glaze and sealant... $150. :D It usually boils down to 20 to 30 bucks an hour... considering that I make $8.50 an hour at my full time job, it's well worth it! But the kid is pretty cool as I work with him on Saturdays. And his dad has a Lambo, a Ferrari, some Ford GT cars... whatever they're called... the somewhat fugly car. So maybe I'll land another customer. I may be detailing the Speed3 at the guy's big ol' mansion... I'm excited.

Congratulations man! Your moving on up! :D

LoL they wont ship to the U.S buddy, check your info next time. Clay Magic still holds the patent. I have to resort to get them by "other" means ;)

Always so harsh to fellow members. Benefit of the doubt, he said you can order it, not that they ship everywhere.
So how do you get it to the states? Have a Canadian buddy ship it?...

Pinnacle ultra clay is extremely soft and the only time I've noticed any marring is on extremely soft, black paint that was fairly contaminated. I've only bought it on BOGO/sale or bulk pricing. It isnverynfine but effective. I haven't used any of GG clay to compare though. But, with having several clay alternatives and a few bars of Pinnacle clay on hand, I wont be comparing it anytime soon.

Nah dude I really am a nice guy, It just irritates me when people talk out of their knowledge range.

Anyhow, theres other way to get it. Other forums have members willing to sell/trade many different detail items. Or get a Canadian buddy like you stated ;).I have the Riccardo yellow & blue clays coming soon. Really going out of my way to get them, but I enjoy unique items.

Dude, you should go out of your way on the lil' Mazda 3. Hit that puppy with everything you've got and you may end up with a chance at the 'fugly' car. ;)

Myself, I think the Ford GT is beautiful! Not just a little bit either!!! The original was light years ahead of its time. But the new ones, now THOSE are amazing road cars. Would be a great addition to your portfolio. :xyxthumbs:

Yeah, it would be awesome if he wanted me to work on his high dollar cars regularly. But I won't get my hopes up. I still have 3 other guys at work who want me to detail their cars, I just hope those come sooner than later.

Thanks ShaunD:xyxthumbs:

No problem.:)
As far as all clay being made by the same company, that is up to people obeying the patent. According to the Junkman it is all made by Clay Magic. I know at least all the gray clay I've ever purchased from AG is wrapped in the same plastic with the same text on it. I would say the only major difference between any of them is going to be the grade.
For the money I would try out Optimum's clay substitute, Eraser. The speed prep towel or wash mitt are the other alternatives I would try, but, the are going to me aggressive than an ultra fine clay and will possibly mar the paint.
