Sully's Detailing: SL 500 (Over Spray Removal) South Florida Detailing

This vehicle belongs to one of my regular clients. He was cleaning a can with an unknown substance in it. He stuck the hose in it and paint went everywhere and all over his SL500. When I first saw the vehicle most of the paint was coming off with my figure nail so I figured a aggressive clay and then polishing the vehicle would do the job. Well it turns out that he drove the vehicle to work on day and it sat outside in the sun and the heat really baked the paint on there. I started by washing down the vehicle and claying it. The clay did nothing so I had to polish all of the paint out.
PS: It started to rain in the middle of this detail and continued to be raining/over cast for the rest of the day so no sun shots. I am working on his Jeep Thursday so I will snag some then

Really nice Sully! I'm going be working on a 2008 S550 any advise? I never worked on a Benz before.

So far he wants a wash/clay/wax and interior cleaning. I'm going see if he wants me to polish his car.

How long did it take you do detail the sl500? I was going start early and since he said I can use his garage, I'm going try to sell the polishing step.

Do you think I can finish wash/clay/polish/wax a benz in a day?

I think you can. I started at 830 finished at 630 if there wasn't overspray on the vehicle I could of cleaned up the interior as well. The interior isn't very big. As for the paint I found the surbuf pads to correct to paint fairly easy and it didn't mar the surface that bad either. Once I went over it with m205 it really made the metallic pop

Thank you. I wish I had more time with the car so I could of detailed the interior of the vehicle. I see this vehicle once a month but I haven't done a full blow interior detail in over a year. With the light color interior it stains easily

Really nice job dealing with the overspray.

After the 2 step, the colour just looks pretty.

That is a nice and unusual color for a Benz!

The paint looks fantastic, Shawn! Good job!

I was thinking the same thing. Honestly I think this is the first time I have seen a post that went from wool-->surbuf-->white polish pad. Nice work man!

Thank You

The Surbuf pad was removing the overspray fine but I found if I did a pass with the wool first it made it easier on the surbuf to remove all the paint. After I inspected the paint under the swirl finder the paint looked great after the surbuf. I just went over the whole car with M205 to give the paint some more pop.

Depends a lot on the paint. I've gone from wool to tangerine before with no problems at all. however other vehicles I've had to do wool, cyan, tangerine, crimson to get it to finish down well.
