Summer coming to AZ.

Besides, the dust storms are the only weather we actually have.

Forecast for summer: Hot, a little humid, chance of dust storm, maybe a local shower or two.

Forecast for winter: Warm, sunny, high around 70.

Without the occasional dust storm, there's not even any conversation about the weather. You can actually plan a weekend event weeks in advance without worrying about the forecast.

My car got a few sprinkles yesterday, so I actually had to wash it with a mitt (don't worry, 2 buckets). It only rained for a few minutes, so if my car had been in the garage, nothing would have happened.

That's the first time we've had any precipitation at my house since early January.

This is one place in the Country that when it rains people stand outside watching this amazing phenomenon.

When I lived on the East Coast it wasn't so much the snow storms that bothered me as it was the kiss of death to sheet metal and anything vehicle related (Rust). I remember having gallons of penetrating oil, hammers, chisels, hacksaws etc. just to work on them. In the last 36 years I have been here I rarely use any of those things now and when I do it is not because of rust. Vehicles here pretty much last forever unless you take them out on the road with the people that think they know how to drive (but that appears to be everywhere).

Dave

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head! I would hate to think of all the quarters that we spend on the 'wand sprayer booth' during the winter. Still, the damn'd rust comes.

That's is just funny.

I can really sympathize with people in the rust prone areas as I was there. To watch your pride and joy turn into hard disk material (red oxide). It gets nasty here and the plastic parts of the vehicle may have different contours than when they were made

and/or the paint may disappear you at least still have something to work with and you can drive it without littering the road with rusted parts falling off.

This was a prime example of a East Coast car. It was bought in Caribou Maine while stationed at Loring AFB. You could literally check the front drivers side tire standing at the fender and looking thru the rust hole on the top. The bottom of the doors were rotted out, the quarter panels around the tire to the rear bumper were gone. In 1980 sheet metal parts were gathered and replaced here in AZ.. The quarter panels were cut and patched then I disassembled the car and painted all the pieces hanging from the rafters in the garage. The car was reassembled and today it still looks like the picture.

NICE!!!!!

The desert is WHY there are those giant airplane parking lots. Can you imagine what a 747 would like in the more northern climes? Just parking, there is salt that gets 'blown' around and creeps into everything during the winter months. Stuff has a mind of its' own.

My uncle actually works at one of the grave yards. Crazy stuff!

That was the word I was looking for...best I could come up with was 'parking lot' (LOL).

That would be fun just to wander thru and look at. I remember as a kid, my Dad and I went to one somewhere in AZ looking for/at some of the WW2 aircraft.

Maybe here.
Home : Pima Air & Space Museum : Tucson, Arizona

or it could have been at Falcon field as there is/was a flight museum there also.

Most visitors go to the Pima Air & Space Museum and then take the "boneyard" tours.

We finally got some rain last evening. Not all that much, but still, the first rainfall at my house since early January. Cooled off the temperatures a bunch, but now it's humid (yuck).

Been raining here almost every night. 100 degree + days and 40 plus on the humidity. Feels like the East Coast.

Dave

The humidity has been around for a month or two now. I remember wiping down the interior of my wife's car and I was sweating buckets...

I wish we had like a days worth of rain. These 10 minute rain sucks... We had a longer rain last night but it was very weak.

I was out drying the Wife's vehicle this morning. Just washed it yesterday as it was rained on every night for a week here. While doing that I found a portable cooler. The guzzler I was using became saturated and I threw it around the back of my neck, to my surprise instant cooler. The guzzler, great drying towel and now a survivalist necessity.

Dave

Great. It's raining again 10:00am

My son just bought a brand new Dodge Dart and of course immediately became a detail freak like his father (back away from my closet full of detailing supplies boy...)

Anyway, after only a few days of ownership mentions the "it never ever rains here, just blows dirt and dust then sprinkles some drops here and there to make your car look REALLY crappy." I just laughed while recounting how many times in my life I've muttered those exact words.

Quite the dust up and downpour we had in Gilbert last night, we surely needed it, but that humidity this morning... ugh.

Lasted only 10 minutes lol. Just enough to get our cars dirty

Yeah, just dried the wife's Toyota again!!!!!!!!!!. The usual quote from her "It's just gonna rain again. I don't know why your drying it". Well yeah I am sure it will rain again, sometime. The only good thing is there isn't any blowing dust/dirt/sand, so the vehicle is clean and doesn't need a wash. She has such a positive attitude

My wife and family always said that too. They just don't understand. Lucky that you didn't drive the car or it will have some mud across the side and in the wheel wells.

You should try using a leaf blower after it rains. Makes it so much easier. Then just dry the remaining water beads with the towel. People look at me funny when I did this before after it rained hahaha!
