Hello all. I am looking to see if anyone has had issues like this before. I run a very large high production detail shop. We purchase the supreme microfiber 530 towels by the case. We only wash them by themselves, no greasy rags, just the microfiber towels that get used only on the body, nothing else. My question is this after a period of time it seems as though the towels are leaving lots of lint behind. We are trying to figure out what is causing this. Are the towels worn out? Any suggestions would be appreciated. by the way the pictures are trying to capture the lint the paint is defect free. Thanks for the help

I have a lot of experience with new towels linting.

If you want to isolate the issue, you will have to wash each towel individually. That way, lets say if one towel is causing the problem, it will still lint. Other towels may just have the lint from that one problem towel and after that wash 99% of the time they won't "lint" anymore.

After washing them, test them on a surface (i.e.paint) and see which ones lint then.

When I get new towels I always wash each one individually and test them out to be on the safe side.

After the problem towel(s) have been identified never wash them with the non-linting towels again. Then you can wash the good towels together, with no problems.

Now I got that out of the way, what are your washing methods? Drying methods? What detergent are you using? What are you using those towels for? (Wax removal, QD wipedowns etc.)

Eventually the towels will lint when they are used often and worn. Its just a matter of usage.

I'll try to answer your questions in order. first off these towels have been in circulation for a long time, probably 3-4 months at least.
washing, because we are a production shop we go thru a lot of towels. So we wash all (body) supreme towels with each other. We use tide detergent and then we dry them on low heat in the dryer.
the towels are used for final wipe down after waxing/ polishing/ anything outside related except drying. We have a dryer system so after we hand wash a car we only use air to dry them.

I can see that maybe they are getting worn out, but they aren't frayed or really beat up. They just seem to leave lint on the car.
Thanks for all of the help

around 7-9 months. We have approximately 250-300 towels in circulation.

What are you using to wash them? Microfiber detergent? No bleach, no fabric softeners, etc......are you cleaning them correctly? if so, then try a vinegar wash and/or boil it. If those fail, hen relegate it to other duties where lint on paint glass won't be so annoying!

I guess anything is possible, but it seems weird that it has taken several months for anything to happen. We have well over 300 microfiber towels in circulation that we use on interiors and door jambs and such that we have had no issues at all with. We have also recently added a 2nd set of washer and dryer to help distribute the load of all of the laundry.

At this point we are considering trying some different towels.

Tide liquid? Please say it's not powder!

One, make sure you are using liquid.
Two, mix your liquid half and half with Woolite.
Just a touch of white vinegar.
Three, not too much heat.

Could there have been other towels washed in the washer other than microfiber before your 530's? Same thing with the dryer? If you're running terry cloth through them then that's going to get picked up in your microfibers.

Might want to run a rinse load through your washer, just a little liquid detergent and a load of HOT water to wash the washer out. Then make sure you wipe your dryer clean before running the microfibers in them.

I'd check out a sample run of different 530 microfibers. MFT has some EXCELLENT 530's that are a fraction of the Cobra cost. The loops are not as long on either side, but they are softer, and imho more durable. Hopefully I'll have my bulk order show up by the end of next week. ;)

dude, using tide detergent is probably what is killing them, unless you're using free and clear, but any ol' Tide has probably had it bad way with them.
