So this is the hood of my 2 week old Honda Accord Sport. I have washed it once with the two bucket method and foam gun pre-soak. I noticed these when I bought it from the dealership.

I was religious about rinsing my mitt and flipping every few feet. I also used three mitts. One for top, roof, and trunk. One for windows to middle and the last for middle to the bottom. I'm hoping these didn't come from me with my method. I only go front to back on horizontal surfaces and up and down on vertical surfaces.

How bad are these and is this what everyone is talking about fixing with the Porter Cable and cutting polish?

Please tell me I can fix this on my own!

Nothing that a PC7424XP cant fix with the Wolfgang Twins. Heck, you might even get away with a white LC polishing pad and Finishing glaze. But definitely the WG Twins will fix it. Just remember TEST SPOT.

Those swirls are not bad at all. It's hard to keep black perfect. I recently did a Honda Civic in Crystal Black Pearl, same color as your Accord. A Porter Cable, Menzerna SF4500, and a polishing/finishing pad would do the trick. Anything more abrasive would be over-kill. I prefer to spend a little more time and use the least cut possible to preserve clear coat.

Not great but not extremely bad either. The good news is they can be fixed using your PC.

Not bad, I've had great success using a DA and Meguiar's 205 with a white foam pad.
This should be all you need to rid of them.

If you didn't clay I'd do that after another good wash and before polishing.
Your method appears good being your using three mitts. Hopefully two buckets with grit guards.
I own a black 08' Rav4 and have to tell you no matter how great my method may be I still find those what I see on your hood.
Drying is another important step, a step that must be thought of just as important as washing.

Didn't take long to see the swirls did it?:(

Thanks guys, makes me feel a lot better. I'm going to have to wait a little while before I can get my hands on a PC. My fiance' is already contemplating making me sleep in this car because of all the attention I've been giving it. She says I can use all my MF towels to keep me warm.

In the meantime I plan on washing it like I have been and watching for the swirls getting worse. It might take a month or two to talk her into letting me get the PC (wedding planners are expensive, who knew). Any other methods of getting them out?

I'll be heading out of town Sunday for 6 days so I plan on washing it and going over the entire car with Pinnacle Crystal Mist Saturday night. When I get home next weekend I'll clay and wax it. It'll be in the airport parking lot for 6 days... and I will get no sleep on either one. Oh well, price to be paid for a nice looking ride.

Again, I appreciate the quick responses guys, y'all are awesome!

The micro fiber towel comment gave me a good chuckle

Hey guys, I wanted to once again thank those of you who gave me tips and advice for my car's paint. A few updates... I had the dealer installed swirls option and immediately began searching for a remedy. All of you pointed me to the materials needed to fix and maintain the car, which were all great recommendations.

I am an airline pilot and my time home with the family is extremely valuable. Long story short, I did not have the time or the resources to do this on my own in the time frame I wanted it done. I may have committed a sin, but I gave the dealership a shot at fixing their mistake. I know, I know, wrong move. And yes, it was the wrong move.

As I'm sitting there with the head of the detail shop listening to how he was going to fix the swirls and scratches he never mentioned a clay bar treatment, warning sign number one. He then proceeded to explain that he was going to take a rotary buffer, blue pad, and some polish to correct the swirls, warning sign number two. Then as I am walking away I noticed one of the detailers drying a car with a SHOP TOWEL. The bottom of my stomach fell out, but I was going to give them their chance.

When I picked the car up (two hours later) it was raining so I couldn't really see the extent of the damage. I could see that the swirls were still there and came to the conclusion that I was going to be fixing this myself. A few hours went by, the rain stopped and the sun came out. As I walked outside to go pick up the kids from school, I thought I was seeing a 3D movie on my hood. The buffer trails and holograms from the RB were horrendous. I was steaming mad and pacing back and forth preparing myself for taking the car back. After I calmed down I called my salesman and he said to bring it in.

When I got there he immediately saw what I was talking about and we went down to the body shop. The body shop guy said the only thing he could do was glaze the car to remove the swirls. We all know that glaze is only make up and would not remove them.

Just this morning I met with the manager of the dealership and within 5 minutes he said that I could take the car anywhere I wanted to have it fixed and that they would cover it. There were no negotiations or hesitations on his part, the decision was instant. I have an appointment with an expert detailer here in Winston Salem with Xpert Auto Detailers for a two-stage flawless correction and opti-coat pro application.

I am not writing this to slam the dealership and their methods. The manager even indicated that he understood my concern and admitted that their detail shop was not set up to produce show cars. His honesty and commitment to my satisfaction is what will have me going back to that dealership for a long, long time. Customer service is still alive and well and that is what I am all about. I'll pay extra for solid customer service.

I also want to mention the guys at Xpert. I called them probably 8 times in a matter of days and they took the time to explain the process, discuss the products, and answer any and all questions I had. That is a true testament to a group of individuals such as yourselves who share a passion for cars with your customers. I don't know any of you personally, but I have yet to come across a pro detailer who didn't embody these traits.

The car goes in Thursday and I am stoked for the results.

Sorry for the diatribe, but I figured I'd update and tell you guys where I am with this since some of you took your own time to help me out.

Good luck.
Can't wait until you can fully love your car.
Keep us updated.

Great story! Kudos for sticking up for your car and pointing out the flaws to the dealership. Sounds like the manager knows their limitations and is, thankfully, not too proud to admit it. Can't wait to see pics of your car once it has been taken care of properly!

I will post before and after pics Friday when I pick it up.

IMO m205 would correct this.
From looking at the pictures anyway.

I definitely agree about the m205 and being able to get it, but my OCD will not allow me to wait until I can purchase the right supplies.
