Swirl removing has left a nasty Spot!!

It looks pitted to me too...I have no idea...I had 3 black Mustang Cobras before this and this is the 1st time in 47 yrs I have ever used a machine....and look what I have uncovered....can you say Damn!!!!

Its all a learning curve, the first time i wet sanded, I went right throught the clear and straight to the primer with only a couple of passes. Sorry that happen to you.

Its very rectangular, almost too perfect of a shape for you to have caused it. Can you take a picture, but place your finger tip just below the defect so that your camera focuses on your fingertip ? This will give us a better clear idea of what it is, with those pictures I see clear white reflection underneath a wet clearcoat, and that can't be correct, so it must be the picture.

Don't worry, worst case the car had some type of coverup paint job done and you wiped it away. No one is hurt and a body shop can fix whatever the issue is, or the experts here can walk you through it.

EDIT also in addition to finger focus image, please step away, back from the car, about 3-4 feet (not too far) and take a picture of the whole panel please.

Check out my 1st post...I had to really zoom in for it to show up on camera for the second set of pics...the white is the overhead light. the whole area is the size of a sheet of paper. will not show up with my finger there. Very hard to see. It goes from the side of the hood to the clear lens. It was a rectangle because I taped a 2 inch section like Swanicyouth suggested.

That looks to me like damage that has been painted over. You can see sanding marks under the paint and the edges of the little craters are smooth like paint,(clear) has flowed down in them. I think they had it filled with something and by polishing you removed it.

I think it will need a repaint on that area but I seriously doubt it's anything you did.

:iagree:

I have looked at almost that whole thread and all the pics that Mike posted. I am pretty sure it is not solvent poping. It almost looks like there was something on the car that was wiped of off very poorly. The marks only go in one direction..left to right looking at the front of the car. Swirling was/is light. This is the only spot on the hood that is doing this.....Very good info though...Thank you.

I hope I did not do it. This sure does discourage a 1st timer. Wonder what this will set me back? Thank you.

The last 3 pictures look like paint was sprayed over chips or something. The last picture looks like there's a sanding mark. I'm thinking it might have been a touch up or something.

I wonder if this would be covered by the 3yr 36 warranty?:dunno:

I'd take it to a dealer, but I bet the last guy who had it did a quick fix. There has defenetly been body work done IMO, there is sanding marks under the paint. If you bought it from a dealer take it back and show them. This is a painted over defect, someone knew it was there!

Car fax said there was rearend damage(light) nothing about the front. bad thing is I got it from a place called Auto Connection, not a Chevy dealer. I am going to take it to a paint shop and see what they say.....wish I could have afforeded new.:(

Its strange that a car under factory warranty wasn't traded into a dealer but instead sold to , what essentially is, a used car lot. I checked their website, seems like they try to specialize in "higher end" used vehicles. You may have to goto a Chevy dealer, but try to find out what "body shop" fixed the damage from Auto Connection.

:iagree: This is damage that you've uncovered through polishing.

When looking closely it's easy to see defined and sharp edges on most of the defects so this is nothing you caused my friend.

CarFax - I'd trust this as much as I'd trust a politician. Much of the information available through it isn't accurate and the rest hasn't been reported...

My other concern is what else lurks beneath the surface? Do you know someone in the trade that can honestly scrutinize the car from top to bottom?

Since this is a ZR1 I suspect you laid out some serious cash. I'd head back to the stealership and have a sincere word or two with them..

I purchased my Audi A6 (9500 miles) from exactly that type of dealership, still under factory warranty. No problems in 40000 miles. In fact it came with a free maintenance contract that the original owner purchased.

This car was recalled under the lemon act for some gas tank evaporator problem which caused the check engine light to come on. All of this was documented and disclosed. Repairs were documented by Volkswagen and their were some additional warranties.

From looking at the pics I agree with everyone else... this damage was done before you even owned the car.

As for carfax, the reports are typically incomplete as they rely on shops to report the damage to them, in some (or most) cases, the shops do not report all the damage. The good news is, you may have the "carfax guarantee" to use to your benefit, I'm not totally sure how it works, but you may want to look into it. I'd also give the rear end a very close inspection for similar issues and have EVERYTHING documented by the detail or paint shop you take it to.

But its still a sweet (and rare) car, friend of mine has one and its fast as balls, it'll be fine soon. For now, just enjoy driving it, and take it to the shop tomorrow.

It probably was...but then all the dealers sell to each other. Could be the dealer wanted to get rid of it.

Carfax...I agree... I am very much concerned too for what lurks beneath the rest of the car. I do not know anyone or whom i could take it to scrutinize it...when I go back to whaere I got it....I am sure it will be "we no nothing about it sorry". Whats bothering me is how or what did they use to cover this up. Since the clear is "clear" seems you would have seen it. The car otherwize looks great all over with light swirls.
