Swirl removing has left a nasty Spot!!

If your Vette has a tinted clear coat the test for presence of cc with polish and a white towel may not have been conclusive. If the clear coat is tinted polish and white towel will show some color, not a lot but some. Do a couple more test to a spots on the sides of the car and see if the amount of color coming up is the same. This may not be a case of no clear, just some shoddy workmanship.

I did what you said and your right.....light yellow on the towel.

Steve, i talked to my friend, an he give the advise that has been given on here. I would get on the computer an find out as much info as you can. Find who is doing the best painting in town and have the hood resprayed. and maybe go ahead and have the roof done to. If they can not clear the roof have them spray the same color as the car. Jonathan

Get the whole car re-cleared would be my suggestion. Then wet sand it, it will look better than from the factory.

Problem is not a lot of painters will just re-clear, I guess there isnt enough $ in it to make it worth their time.

Now the question at hand is, "How much does this bother you?" What does this look like at 5 feet? 3 feet? How close must you get to see the marring? How obvious is it? What are you willing to spend?

Is this a daily driver or your "garage queen"?

If it is a daily driver you will wind up spending a bunch and likely get some rock chips the first couple weeks it is out of the paint shop. SH_T happens, at least it does to me, all too often.

I have a garage queen and I spent a small fortune to achieve what I wanted. I knew how much it would bother me to have imperfections in the paint that probably only "I" would see and yet no one else would likely ever notice.

A good painter can make your issue go away. Keep in mind that you will need to spend some time with your chosen painter and shop owner explaining that you are adamant about your expectations before they ever begin. Be sure you and they are on the same page and have the same understanding of the definition of "Flawless".

I had my shop redo my paint as it developed tiny solvent pops the first time they tried. They finally did it perfectly but it took them three months. We were both very proud of the work they did.

Repaints are often not as good as OEM unless you have a good budget and can find the right shop and painter. Collision repair shops are almost never the place to expect a great paint job. Find who does custom work in your area? Who paints the custom rods. Go to a few car shows and examine the paint on them and ask the owners who painted them.

Lastly, look at this as an opportunity to do something outside the box. Don't just seek a repair. This is an opportunity to do a couple more significant things that could make your vette a one of a kind standout. First to remove all traces of the famous GM orange peel, that is present an almost every GM vehicle I've ever seen. Second, thought about custom paint designs color blends, shading? Third, what about wraps?

Good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to him for me. I have been told that the roof would have to be replaced if I wanted to fix it.....see below.

Thank you,
Here is what I will do. I have taken the car to 5 shops and they ALL say to leave it alone....they would like to have my money but leave it alone. GM is not going to pay for with out a fight I think. I have to email him my VIN and info for him to document that I was there and they saw it before factory warranty ran out. I work for pretty big law firm if it came to that.
Here are normal pics of what the car looks like. The area is hard to see I must admit. I am going to keep a close eye on it and see what happens. In the mean time I will continue to read on here and talk to people at the shows and drive ins to see who they would use.

I would like thank yall on the for real tip for trying help me.....maybe 190 mph will just peel it right off for me lol.
