Hi there I am in the process of detailing my black 2009 Yukon Denali with a lot of swirls from drive through car washes . I'm using a flex orbital and so far me guitars heavy cut cleaner #4 seems to be doing best although some swirls are left behind. I'm using a orange pad . I'm going to try some meguiars 105 on the remaking swirls to see if they come out . I tries mezerna FG400 but it didn't work as well as the meguiars #4 . After the correction I want to apply the BL coating . My questions are 1. Any other suggestions for swirl removal

2. After the correction can I go right to the black label prep polish or follow with another polish first .

ThanksFeed back please

Here are my results with M105 on a G110v2 with a polishing pad:

While GM paint seems to be on the harder side I have made great results with Meguiars M105 (similar to the Ultimate compound) and a polishing pad.

Here are two before and after photos of paint correction I did on a black GMC Sierra

There is never going to be a "do this, then this" to paint correction because your application of compound/polish will be different from someone else's. What matters is the finish.

We test spot the worst spot on the paint as it comes into our shop and find every step we need to get it to 100% before we start anything else on the vehicle. Once you establish the process the rest is a lot more simple. Try doing a test spot and finding what it takes to go from uncorrected to corrected, as far as products, pads, pressure, pass time, etc. in your eyes. It only matters what is good enough for you/the customer.

Ouch... taking a black anything through a car wash...

My guess is the Meguiar's #$ Heavy Cut Cleaner is removing defects and then leaving micro-marring behind due to the type of abrasive technology used.

I have an article on this....

For Use with Rotary Buffer Only - Read the Directions

Here's an exceprt....

The entire article is worthy of a read.

I tries Menzerna FG400 but it didn't work as well as the Meguiars #4 .

The FG400 is a very aggressive compound that will finish down nicer than the #4. No way of knowing your technique with it but

1. Try slowing down your arm speed, that is move the Flex 3401 very slowly over the paint.

2. Try the 4 speed setting instead of the 5-6 speed setting.

3. Be sure to clean your pad after each section you buff.

4. Don't buff too large a section.

5. Don't over use the product, this can cause hyper lubrication and prevent the abrasives from cutting efficiently.

Go with Meguiar's M101 or M105, I'd probably go with M101.

When you use an aggressive compound, especially on a black vehicle, you should really follow with a less aggressive pad and polish or you might see some marring in the sun that is basically dull paint.

Just keep in mind the aggressive product and pad are aggressive....

I always say,

Polishing paint is an art form, not a grinding process....
