Swirls/Holograms in black paint

So I've got a black 2015 GTI. It has some swirls in a couple spots (from washing before I knew how to do it correctly), and holograms (might actually be marring?) I put in from using swirl x incorrectly (too much pressure for too long I believe, using cheap MF towels instead of a foam pad).

I now have a GG 6" with 5" backing plate, 5.5" LC pads of all colors.

Any suggestions? I was thinking go over again with the swirl x, then ultimate polish (both of which I have on hand). From what I'm seeing this should take care of holograms/left over swirls. If anyone has any suggestions they know will work better (pad color, maybe UC instead of swirl-x, etc), please let me know.

Edit: It's worth mentioning that these marks/marrs are not easy to spot, I'd have to point them out...at a perfect angle in the sun.
 
I am no pro and still a noob. I too have a 2014 GTI mk7 (euro spec) and was in the same situation as you. Swirl X ruined my paint.

Long story short: I purchased a flex, white hybrids and did the car with Ultimate Polish and it looks beautiful! I doubt I will ever touch swirlx again as I had horrible results by hand and machine. UP on the other hand was great.

Another non-expert here, but I'd give it a shot with what you have. Like always, start with the least aggressive method and work your way up. So I would try UP with a white pad, and then orange if that didn't give the correction I wanted. If neither of those work, then give swirl x a try the same way.

If neither of those remove the defects you can always get a bottle of ultimate compound and try it.

Just remember, after using some of the stronger compounds and polishes, you'll likely have to follow them up with a fine polish (UP) on a white or black pad to remove the haze that may be left.
 
Maybe list your location, and see if there is another Geeker near you that would help get you going.
 
as all holograms and swirls , they either bad or you have to catch the light in correct angle to see it.
iv done some VW paints. they are in general VERY hard clear cote… i have 2014 black Jetta TDI..
which LC pads do u have ? each type is different from Hybrid to Hydrotech.
i would get M105 M205 combo , Wolfgang TSR or UC followed with FG
or Menzerna FG400,SIP1500, followed by SF4000 if you have Hydrotech pads use tangerine with FG or SIP then Crimson with 4000 or any other combo with those pads…
if you have to cut it harder use Cyan pad…

once you polish the paint think about protecting you investment in good sealer and wax or coating.

Get yourself a nice Menzerna polish like 2500 and 4500 or something like HD Adapt or HD Polish. I have all of those and they work wonders on black paint.

 
Sorry for the late reply guys! Thanks for all the suggestions. All of my swirls/holograms probably could not be picked out by an average joe, definitely need to catch them at a good angle with good lighting. I am pretty neurotic about my car. So UP with an orange pad wasn't cutting it, went to UC with an orange pad and it got rid of about 50% of my problems. Probably going to try out menzerna or meg's 105/205 combo next. For now I am satisfied, many hours spent on the car today. Ran out of daylight and the lighting situation in my garage is pretty terrible, that's another upgrade coming soon.

To answer some earlier questions I'm using the LC flat pads, have 2x of each color, definitely going to order some more lol..

A sealant or coating is definitely in my future!

If the paint on a MK7 is anything like the paint on my black pearl '14 MK6, the swirls and even some minor marring will not be very easy to correct. The paint is rather hard.

I've used the Blackfire SRC duo together with quite a bit of success. I used both the compound and the polish on white LC Flat Pads.

This spring I tried to use only the polish on a white pad during my annual polishing of the car and it didn't get me the results I was after. Due to the hardness of the paint I'm now looking at something like Wolfgang TSR or Menz 2500 to fill the gap between the compound and the polish so I'm not always compounding the car year after year.
 
Go with Meguiars M101, M205 and Blackfire Wet Diamond. Best recipe in my experience.
