Swirls in black paint

View attachment 37305

Mr. Phillips I did not try the SF 4000 I got locked in thinking I couldn't get any finer than the H20 mixture but I am happy with the results it performed. I wish I would have tried the SF 4000 now if it is that user friendly it is a great product though. I appreciate your input!

😔 i have been telling you to use sf4000 since 2 pages ago for some reason you was still on the 205 kick.

You cant just use one product when one dont work you have to try everything you got i cant believe you did not try sf4000

Sf4000 over 205 all day glad you solved it tho i just cant believe you had a top of the line polish and never tried it lol

Lol man I know I thought the porter cable was going to do the trick to and when it didn't I kinda just got stumped so I went back to the h20 mix thinking I couldn't get any finer. But it worked out. It was all a learning curve, even the SF 4000 man.. Thanks bud.

Have you waxed, sealed or coated all that hard work?

I have to ask what made you just try 205 and not try sf4000

Also do you have fg400

Did you think sf4000 had more cut?

I did wax it with meguiars ultimate paste wax.

To be honest I have more 205 than 4000 so I decided to use that. I did think 4000 was courser. I do also have menzerna 400 I just recently did A Miata with 400/4000 and had great results. Very friendly to work with. View attachment 37320View attachment 37321

Good job.

Menzerna products are nothing short of the best.

Use them there your friend.

They make any detailer look good

Makes me wonder if the resprayed side was in 2 stage acrylic?? My black 56 beetle is sprayed in 2 stage acrylic, and that is exactly the issue I have with polishing mine, the haze, and the removal of the product without destroying the fresh polished paint that I just spend hrs trying to get right... So frustrating...the paint job is driving me mentally insane :bat:

So you have D302 microfiber polish? Did you try it with just finishing pad with no H20? It has little to no cut.

I thought it was a single stage myself but it is base/clear. It does drive ya crazy.
I did use d302 on a finishing pad but 205 finished better on the rest of the truck.
The h20 mix was used on the back left side of the truck Bc everything was giving me a DA haze.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, its a 2 stage paint job black base with clear over the top, but it might have been done with a single pack acrylic with very little if any hardener added. My beetle is like that, it's an acrylic 2 stage paint job with a nice thick clear on it, but was done with soft acrylic paints instead of 2Pack urethane's, so its very difficult to refine the finish on, as it marrs too easily when polishing due to it being very soft!

I will say that it's a nice easy paint to correct to a reasonable level, getting it to the perfect finish that my OCD expects without any fine scratches from the polish or wiping it off is where it gets frustrating! Its an uphill battle, even more so on a daily, I'd suggest a very hard paint sealant would be in order, 3 bucket method and then keep the carnauba wax on it regularly to hide any sneaky swirls that might force you to go polishing it again.

I also found that my paint responds well if I follow the final polish stage on the machine with a very light polish of the same product on one of those soft yellow wax applicators by hand, if the paint is soft like mine, it will actually have a noticeable effect! again, this is all trial and error...every paint is different!:buffing:
