Swirls marks - beginners question

Totally off topic...Mike what is that on the trailer brakes? Leftover Mt Saint Helen's ash?

Bill

I have know idea... I bought this truck from a couple of real, well lets just say good ol boys. They used it for a Mud Truck here in South Florida.

I couldn't beleive this truck would even stop after I took the brakes apart. You think these look bad, you should see the front!

Here the same front set of brakes and axels all rebuilt with new Warn Hubs

YUK is the understatement!

I didn't realize the trailer was 'Florida', I was thinking back when you lived in Oregon (or as the folks here say, Orygone...LOL).

You'll get it, with the plethora of videos out there now days and all the help you get on forums like this one.

Well I took a while to get back but I m done now so I wanted to thanks you for all the advice. I was able to detail my truck and my 2 cars. Is it perfect ? no but hey what a difference !!!! Using porter cable DA.

My truck was heavily swirled and was able to get it back to life !!! so it pretty good.

Some observations and questions:

- 3M compound product were not near as efficient as the MGGuire Ultimate compound

- What should I use for a deeper scratch(scratch is still in the clear coat I believe not in the paint) . I tried pressing a bit harder and moving slower on the DA (at speed 6) using compound and many passes but no luck...

- when should someone start using wet sanding instead of compound (after trying buffing steps I imagine ...)

- can someone use compound and /or polish over and over or eventuelly there is no more clear coat ? sound like a stupid question but I just wonder if polish / compound process is only a few time for the life of a paint job... or is once a year ok ?

Again thanks all for your help ... it's really appreciated
Pat

Oh My!!! I've seen a lot of rusty crusty wheel bearings in my days but that definitely beats any I've seen for the mud and rust mixture. Makes me wonder what my old CJ-7 bearings looked like. Always had that thing in the bog.
