Tail of the Dragon & surrounding roads

And so the countdown is on again!
I decided not to do it day to day countdown on here because I never got around to doing a formal invite to the AG community.

I am really looking forward to the vacation this year because we're going to do the snake!

Re: Tail of the Dragon & surrounding roads

Drove the Tail of the Dragon back in May of this year. Absolutely fantastic. Loads of fun. Photos from Tail of the Dragon. Slayed that Dragon. I'll be back down there next May.

I was just thinking how funny it'd be for Roger in his Captain Slowmobile and me in mine to show up at the same places an hour or two apart...

Hey! Didn't we see that car before and wasn't it black?

Wait! What?

...and then this one:

Thanks John

Btw I'll ask again, would you like to come on down this year with us?

Thanks for the invite, but I can't swing it this year. But, I'll try to make it next year. It's been too long.

Hope you can make it, would like to get a couple AG'ers out with us at some point

Oh no, I bet it's our part because of how far east it is😋

Hopefully it will only be a minimal increase. But, when this happened here in the Midwest a few years ago, gas jumped 50 cents overnight!

We make it to the Dragon every year on the 4th of July. My mother in law lives in Robbinsville, NC so we always have a place to stay

My buddy said it's $1.99 for 87 right now.

If you're in Pigeon Forge and head out Wears Valley Road to Townsend, TN, which is the back way to Cades Cove, which is a beautiful drive itself...if you take Wears V. Rd. you'll come to an overpass that leads to nowhere...actually it does but the last time I was there it was still closed...but it leads to an unfinished road up on the mountains to your right if you're headed to Townsend. It's been unfinished for sometime, but in July of 2015 when I was there last I think I remember reading they were getting ready to finish that road and a finished date was mentione, but I don't recall it. I believe it's part of a parkway, scenic drive, or something like that. I believe it starts somewhere in North Carolina and goes a good ways down into Tennessee along another ridge. On a map it appeared to be quite a long drive, high elevation, and curvy. Maybe someone can give me some updated info on that, but I thought I'd share, and perhaps someone else mentioned it. I haven't read this entire thread.

Cades Cove FTW!!!

The road leading there was awesome, did that 2 yrs ago...my car loves tunnels!

Question for those who've done this. Since it's so popular, does traffic get congested or does it flow like you want it to?
