Tailgate dirt

Was super careful in unloading a bed full of dirt by lining the tailgate and gap with tarp and wood. Even with doing that, when I rinse the tailgate and lift it up to close...dirt discharges from the bottom of tailgate holes. I’ve washed and rinsed a dozen times. Any suggestions?

Yes.

Remove the access plate (on the inside of the gate), blast it with water to clean it out, let it dry, then liberally spray a lubricant into the insides.

While you're in there, treat your latch actuator with a nice bath of lithium grease.

If you are concerned about those, then either isolate your spray, or do not attempt.

My opinion? If the dirt got into the tailgate so easily, then water would have zero problems. (i.e. not waterproof and the connections are made to resist moisture.)

Best bet is to consult your dealer if you are unsure.
