Tales of a rebellious man

Just a follow up to this thread. It has been about 7 months and 5 days since I put the coating product (McKees 37 Paint Coating) on my silver 2016 Rav4 which at that time was about 1 year old. The car mostly sits in the garage. Today I went out to take the bugs off the front of the car and had the thought so how is this coating holding up?? So I spritzed some water here and there and basically the effect is pretty much gone on the front and top surfaces. Still pretty good on the sides. Now this car has only been washed with water from our well which is pretty clean stuff as it goes through several processes before it goes in our house. The last being a large charcoal filter. And a lot of times with rain water. Sorry no acid rain.

It (the coating) seemed like it was doing much better a month ago.

So my comments.

Well I am somewhat disappointed. I can't see any advantage to the coating.

I think I prefer my original method which is Collonite 476S once a year and washes using ONRWW and occassional OCW applications. Plus these two product treat the black trim.

I thought about using the Optimum products over the coating but decided not to as this seemed to be the against the rules for coatings.

So there you are - I told you I was a rebellious man.

Interesting observation. It could be your coating is contaminated and that a light claying will help to recovered the water repelancy. I found this to be the case with a couple of coatings I tested.

Did you use n914 to wash the car with this whole time? Have you done and decon washes since applying the McKees coating? Hope you get it sorted out. But seems like you are likeing the 476s and ONR WW and OCW you did before. So if you will call it done without the hassle to revive it if possible. Then a finishing polish and a application with 476s is due.

The worst areas are the hood and frontal areas. Thinking the engine heat may have something to do with the lack of durability. If the car was "toxified" and needed n914 to clean it why would the sides be relatively fine? Not going to make a big deal out of this. The car is basically a garage queen. Perhaps washing the hood and front more frequently to remove bugs wore off the coating.

So that's it for this thread for me. Thought I would give my 2 cents worth. I am under whelmed with this coating.

It seems to/for me the secret to keeping that slick feeling on the paint and plastic for that matter is to regularly use ONRWW and OCW.

Eh, it happens. Have run across things that others gave great success with but just don't seem to click for me, be it effort or results.

M105 stands out as one...

Sometimes things just don't work out; no harm, no foul.

re: What did you use to wash the car with?

water!! The car doesn't get very dirty and washes up good with water!!

I don’t usually give posts that are that long the time of day... But that was an enjoyable read.

I can relate to what you said about back in the days prior to “doing things the proper aka AG way”
I too used to use a synthetic chamois to dry [The Absorber] I used them for years and years... 1 thing I’ve always done, going back many years from the time I 1st used a wash mitt was frequently hosing the dirt off of it before going back in the bucket for fresh suds. That’s 1 of the things I’m proud to have always done without needing to be taught to do.

Now in my recent procedure/detail by AG standards I should have used a dozen polishing pads and several dozen mf towels. I used 4 pads and 3 towels.

Lmao! I know exactly what you mean. I’ve done the same thing countless times. I mean you get 8 fresh sides to a towel, even if it’s just a 16x16” towel it goes a very long way.. 3 towels? I can relate. It’s almost as if using less towels for the polishing process somehow allows me to better focus on the task because I’m neat, conservative, and mindful of not creating any unnecessary waste or mess. [I hope that makes sense]

The whole “you’re going to need to stock up on microfiber towels when you use your polisher, and they better be the good plush ones” is pretty comical.

I too enjoyed this post. I totally agree about back in the day as I have a garage full of stuff but only use a select few now.
