Tapeing Over Decals

Do you tape over decals while preparing to polish? If so do you do it for a finish polish as well as a cutting polish?
Also do you just use masking tape?

personally if i was doing it i would use masking tape over decals when polishing paint. final step is a choice if the decals have crap on them polish them with final step but do it spairingly. I would remove tape and wax over decals but only one pass with polisher. My 0.02$

Only time i have done it is if they are mat color decals
