Taping before polishing...

Sorry if this is slightly off topic but...

Mike,

Don't believe I've seen wheels covered like they are in that one pic. I get the idea of the chrome and glass being covered but what's the purpose behind the rubber of the tires being covered?

I'm pretty new to detailing so I'm sure this will be obvious for some here.

Thanks.

When you're buffing the vertical panels it's easy to throw a little splatter with a rotary buffer onto the tires and wheels and in this case also the side pipes.

This car was buffed out using a 3 step rotary buffer process then a 3-step DA process so plenty of time for a little splatter to be thrown no matter how good you think you might be with a rotary buffer.

The engine is also covered up with a soft flannel bed sheet.

I do the same treatment to any A.C. Cobra I buff out, either original or recreation as they have side pipes and nice wheels and tires also and it's really easy to sling splatter down into the engine compartment because of the air scoop on the hood dumps out right on top of the engine. (I've rotary buffed out a lot of A.C. Cobras in my life, here's one and this is an all original Cobra, not a kit car.

This was taken around the year 2000 as I bought the Milk Truck for a route truck when I called on body shops. dealerships and detail shops plus used to for working at car shows and of course my detailing business.

Note on the left hand side in front of the driver's side rear wheel there's a rotary buffer behind the products, there's a well-worn Porter Cable on the right side. I'm using some very early 80's series products and my LSP is Medallion Premium Paint Protection.

If you look at the time stamp on the last photo of the Corvette, it was 2:00am when I took that picture. I ended up working on the car all the way through till morning and then just started working again at my normal job at Meguiar's during the day.

There were a couple of times I pulled all-nighters to do extreme makeovers as that was the only time I could wear jeans and tennis shoes at work. During the day there's a dress code.

:D
