Hello all, I have to say I have really enjoyed reading all of your information and advice. I am a newbie here and not into the business. This is my first post. I have a Dupray steamer and was wondering if I still need to tape off my truck for detailing or will the steamer be a quicker cleanup?

Thank you for all of the info that you have posted on the forums as well as your input here.

Yesterday I had a guy send me an e-mail asking me the easy way to get polish and wax residue off the black plastic trim on his car.

I told him the easiest way is to tape off the trim up front and save yourself the headache of "trying" to remove the residue the rest of your life.

Here's the deal, compound, polish and wax residues impact into the plastic. This is especially true for the worst automotive trim ever invented and that's

Pebble Textured Black Plastic

So do yourself a favor and tape off any trim you don't what to detail after the fact, when you're tired from spending all day buffing out your car.

And do yourself a bigger favor by avoiding having to look at stained trim the rest of your life as it's pretty much impossible to remove 100% of the white colored stain on black plastic trim once it's there.

^This. Even though I know at all times where my pads lies on the paint, I tape the trim up and over the window edge, where lots of dust can get in. Saves a ton of cleanup time.

I believe Mike also has an article on how to remove some tackiness from tape as well to avoid adhesive residue.

I will definately agree with taping it up to avoid the headaches after. So much easier to remove tape and have a clean edge or crevice than dealing with having to remove what will inevitably end up all over the vehicle in all the areas that will catch product...even if your careful to avoid them.

I want to thank each of you for taking the time to reply. I know you guys are probably busy so I do appreciate it. I was somewhat confused on where the dupray would come in as it seems it can do a heck of a lot. Mike, I have been watching your videos. That and all the amount on info on the forums has been a great help. My second order from Autogeek arrives this week. I am looking to make a third order. I really should stop taking in all of this info. It's costing me bucks.....lol.
