Tax deductions for tools/products/etc.?

Just another idea...take a look at the IRS website, all of their publication are available for download. May take some time to find the one you really need, but there is at least one pub that addresses small business. May give you a hint to some of answer(s) to your question(s).

Sorry if my sense of humor was missed here. For the record, I do not think this thread should be deleted. I was merely inferring that I know a lot of people who detail or play in bands that get "paid under the table" and never report that income to the IRS. It would be a pretty bad idea to try and use tax deductions on money never taxed to begin with and if that is the case stop right now and don't go any further.

What I was trying to get across was you seem pretty green when it comes to the actual business side of things (not a bad thing, you have to start somewhere) and are asking a question about tax deductions on a detailing forum. That isn't necessarily a bad thing if you are an experienced business owner asking for a quick reference.

Starting a business is complex and one of the last things you should be asking about is what items are tax deductible. There is some good advice given here, but the only thing I would take from this thread is to find a local CPA to work with. Tax law is VERY complicated and good luck reading through IRS documents, they are wordy, difficult to follow, and often subject to interpretation.

If you are truly serious about starting your own business, especially a Limited Liability Corporation, then I strongly suggest not taking anything to heart from forum members unless it is “been there, done that” analogies. You do not know their qualifications. Find a certified expert, who will actually defend you if need be, and go through everything that is needed.

Owning a business is a very rewarding experience, but it also comes with a lot of responsibilities. Like anything in life, do it the right way and give it your all.
