Techniques for applying tire shine

I have meguiars hotshine tire spray and I usually just spray it directly on the tire for best shine but it gets all over my wheels, making them dirty again. I tried applying with a sponge instead but it doesn't make the tires as glossy and black. What are some useful techniques for applying tire shine without getting the wheels dirty?

I'm working on a bottle of that right now... I only use it for customers who have Michelins. My normal go to for Michelin people is Meguiars Endurance Gel, but I've got a bottle of Hot Shine so I'm using it.

If I remember correctly it has a hi - low lever on the sprayer right? That's about as helpful as it gets, you just have to be clever with the trigger and move fast in a swiping motion. I don't have too big of an issue with overspray when I use it.

I made a wheel cover using a piece of wallboard or paneling and a drawer pull for a handle.I cut it to the wheel size,applied a rubber seal around the parameter and added the drawer pull in the center for a handle.I also use Meguirars Tire Shine but I use this home made cover and spray it.I have been doing this for 3 or 4 years now and it works great..

On my 20" wheels for my Ram (actual size was like 19 3/4') I cut that size circle out of 3/8' plywood on a band saw, added a knob in the middle, and weather strip on the outer edge facing the rim.

Thought I was the only one, lol

My idea was to use a pizza box, cut it and spray it with plastidip. Hole in the center for my finger.

I just keep it simple and spray tire shine on a microfiber applicator and wipe the tire

Call me crazy, but I spray on the tire shine then clean/polish the wheel faces. It also gives the dressing time to set/dry while I clean the wheels and move on to Waxing or windows or whatever is next.
