Ok. My dad said that they got this Teflon coating on the new car, and you CAN'T wax it for like... 5 years. Well, you need a special wax, but it isn't even necessary because it protects the paint surface for 5 years. Anyone know anything about this? I feel like the dealer may have slipped in some extra profit on this one. Opinions? Thanks.

Yeah, well, before I became a 'detailer' I fell pray to a similiar offer and wish I hadn't. Anyway, there is no reason that you can't apply sealants, waxes, glazes, etc, to enhance the looks of the finish. That is what I do.

Look closely at the warranty to see what they say about using compounds.

Why do you wish you hadn't? Did it mess something up or did you feel it added no "failsafe" protection?

dealer sold him a paint sealant. Likely to last a year or less, and clearcoat typically can live for more than several years without protection prior to failing. As such you dad became pray to "dealer add-ons".

Bummer. Thanks guy for the replys. And so QUICKLY. Gotta love AGF on weekends!

Exactly, killr. I bought 2 new cars pretty much back-to-back last year and paid for this stuff on both. Since, I did get a full refund on one since the dealer applied it incorrectly and there are water spots in the sealant layer.

I'm going to take a look at the warranty on that thing later on today and update regarding what it says.

Good for you, drinking is overrated anyway.

Here we are now toasting with Mt. Dew...

:)

LOL, yeah college peer pressure to drink is weird. Peer pressure is weird actually.

 Mt. Dew and weekends of detailing!

Drinking because of peer pressure is the worst thing you can do especially in college. I have had allot of young Airman ruin there Military career because of that exact reason. Keep up the detailing and when you do turn 21 drink socialy and moderatly. Sorry for the rant its the supervisor coming out in me.:righton:
