Did this car today. Customer just wanted the car washed, clayed and waxed, then wanted to see what I could do with the hood and roof.

Basically at one point the hood and roof where repainted and the clear had been failing from very long exposures in the sun. Was SEVERLY oxidized. Was able to pull as much as I could out. Sucked that the hood and roof where so starved that within about 5 secs of the compound sitting on the hood, it caked on its own and turned to dust. So it was extremely hard to buff.
Before: As you can tell its a black car that almost looks white! :nomore:

Then the test spot to see if it was able to at least be cleaned up and returned to its original color so it could get a better price at auction...

Some half and halfs on the roof...

Then after, before washing and waxing...

Now washed, the rest of the car clayed and waxed...

Customer was extremely happy, will be going back to do a few more cars for him in the coming weeks.

wow man, great job. The previous owner really let that thing go! It didnt look fixable to me.

Wow. Amazing. What was the process and what products did you use?

Actually the process was quite odd... lol.... Because as soon as I tried any type of compound, within 10 secs, and yes I mean 10 secs, the compound would cake up or dry out from the paint. So I had to do...

1st Step. Ultimate Compound with the LC Orange Hand Pad, and really...REALLY work it in there. Then followed it up with Menzerma Micro Polish with the LC Black Pad, twice, working each stage in real good! Followed up by 3M Ultrafine with the Diamond Cut Mirror Glaze Pad. Took about 4 hours to do both the hood and roof.

You did UC by hand? What did you use with the other 2 steps?

Yeah, no way I could do the compound with the rotary by hand, it dried out to fast. But I followed it with the Menzerma with the Dewalt 849.

dang, great job. The owner has it on BBS LMs but had that poor of paint???

Good job, I would have never thought of that. I would have spit balls flying all over the place.:righton:

Maybe I missed it if you shared that the re-painted panels were in fact clear coated when they were re-painted?

That looks more like how a single stage paint oxidizes and not a clear coat, if it is a clear coat and it's turned white then cross your fingers it doesn't return after a few weeks.

Besides all that.... Great Job!

It was not a single stage. You could see from severe road rash on the hood all the areas where the clear had chipped off, plus on the back edge of the hood you could feel where the hood was sprayed on the car, instead of off where it could have all the edges perfectly done.
