Testing Microfiber

Okay im not sure if its somewhere else on here or not but here is my problem. I recently bought 12 of the ap yellow microfiber towels through autogeek and have been hearing about scratch tests for microfiber which requires you to take a blank cd and rub your microfiber on it with medium pressure. So I did this and walahh scratches on the cd. So what does this mean about these microfiber towels will they scratch my paint or not? I keep hearing mixed thoughts can this be cleared up for me please? Thank you
 
Personally I think the CD test is a bunch of crap. I bet your towels are just fine.

Have a link to the ones you have specifically?
 
IMHO - I don't think passing the CD test is the definitive OK for paint. However, if it fails it, then it is an interior/wheel/glass MF for me.

Pressure on the MF is the key - don't use any on paint.
 
Here are two comments from the product description. "They are the towels I reach for when I need to dry my wheels after cleaning or wipe down my door jambs." and "Reserve your Miracle Towels for buffing – the All Purpose Towels will do the rest." There are alot of comments on Microfiber Towels that you can search out. You will also get alot of personal opinions. IMO. Without knowing more, the towels would be used for jams and wheels. Cobra Gold or Miracle Towels would be my choice for wax removal, etc. You get what you pay for. Invest in quality. It pays in the long run.
 
And the debate continues.... I believe that post #3 is right on with the statement that it is a lot about "pressure" being a key point that is often overlooked by newer detailers. Don't get me wrong..if you get a cheap MF towel..you can not avoid damage...but I always use mine "damp" and as little pressure as needed to get the job done. It does not matter to me how much I spent on a specific towel..expensive or not...I don't use a dry towel on my cars.

I would use those towels for the All Purpose Jobs like they are meant for. I don't usually use all purpose towels on paint. I use them for interior, wheels, door jambs, ect. Just because I wouldn't use them on paint doesn't mean they don't have a place. I use more non-paint quality MF's then I do ones that I consider safe for paint.
 
I may be missing something here, but you're worried that the towels you bought, which they do not recommend you use on your paint, will scratch your paint?

I never saw that or read it maybe I missed it sent them back anyways just buying some different ones or Adam's
 
:goodpost: op. Not that I agree /disagree with your method. However I finally understand the " juice " reference made by another poster a few days ago. Thank you for opening my eyes and making my forum reading/research more entertaining!
