Testing OC 2.0

Nice video... nice that you had another car to compare to.

I will admit... that definitely doesn't appear to be coated. I will pay more attention to the sheeting vs. beading, and the sheeting should be MUCH quicker. The coating should produce results like the MaxWax panel did.

Check out Rasky's video for comparison.

That video is confusing. Not sure what is going on in it. By looking at it, the OC is gone..

There are two different vehicles... the 1st one (2009) has wax on it, then is stripped with APC, then is reapplied from what I gathered.

The 2nd one (2008) was supposed to have OC2.0 on it, but it appears to have failed already or not have been applied at all.

Bob can chime in if I've misinterpreted what is going on in the vid.

Yes, the first vehicle got this process.. Video of nothing done, just water (3 month old WGDGS), then clayed and put on fresh MaxWax. Next was APC, and then re-applied MaxWax.

My car (second one) was foamed and then shown on video. Next was APC and then showing the rinsing of the APC.

I agree that it doesnt look to be coated.. The sheeting took forever.

My crappy situation that I thought was over with just got a little worse. I am planning on speaking to the Opti-Coat rep that he goes through about this issue. My red flag was going up when he asked about waxing it... The whole car sheets poorly...

3 things:

1. I don't want your water bill.
2. Watching that water sheet off your car made me need to pee, twice.
3. Your car doesn't appear to be opticoated.

haha.. I never use that technique on a regular basis. This was just a whole lot quicker and I didnt want to have a video that is all over the place trying to turn the switch on and off...

I always use my pressure washer but thought this would work better for sheeting and beading.

Thanks for checking it out and letting me know what you think though!

Whatever was on there the APC took care of it. Which means it wasnt opti coat!

I will be curious to know what 'the rep' says since the product in question was not the 'pro' version. There is no warranty or guarantee available with the consumer product, so I imagine they might simply tell you to discuss your options with the installer. They might, however, reconsider allowing the installer to be listed as an authorized installer if they are in fact unable to do it properly.

Either way, the product should not display that type of reaction to APC if it has been allowed to cure. The installer should have known that you would check their work after you had to point out their mistakes during the polishing phase.

Since you clearly know the ins and outs of detailing yourself, I would simply ask for a refund due to the fact that you were initially unhappy with their ability to detail the car in the first place, they caused damage to your car when sanding without proper paint readings and precautions, and they are clearly unable to properly install the coating that you had paid extra for (or even worse, maybe didn't even install it in the first place!).

Keep us posted... you're going to have quite a story when this is all said and done! and to think it all started with one bad car wash.

Just a quick throw in here. I Dont think this detailer actually applied opti coat. I think he applied a cheap off the back of the truck coating and calls it opti coat.

Just experience talking here...

I was there when he applied the first coat so I can confirm that he initially used OC.. He came back to see the car today and determined it was coated BC it still beads??? We sprayed two spots w APC again and both spots were flat and obviously different from rest of car.. I brought out the other 250 w 3 month old Wolfgang sealant and it beaded and sheeted equal to the OC ( better sheeting, worse beads on one with Wolfgang.)

Talked to Chris from optimum while he was there but he couldn't do too much over phone with not being able to see the car..

It performed like it did in your video? If so, I think everyone on here will back you in that it is NOT coated.

Again, refer to Rasky's video that I linked earlier in this thread. That is how a coating should bead/sheet.

If that guy cannot accept that something is wrong he needs to reevaluate his customer service and ethics.

This is same guy who couldn't see anything wrong the first time that I requested it to be repolished...my fiance could see the mess from inside her car and knew instantly I wasn't going to he happy yet he couldn't see anything wrong from 2 feet away.

After he polished it and saw obvious difference he admitted it needed to be re-done..

How far away are you in IL? Would love to learn something for real one time..

*at first it was sheeting and beading good when he got there and I was like great, what the hell.. But I applied Aquawax to aid in drying after the test and figured this had something to do with it.

I did the test again while he was there and it looked exactly like it did in the video..

OC should look like this:

I've been round the OC failure tree before. Basically, there is one recommended way to apply OC 2.0. That is to use Optimum Polishes prior, and then wipe down with IPA. Other than that, your just going by anecdotal data or by what a guy says on a forum. I found the prep is the key for success with OC 2.0.

What prep was done prior to application? If the prep wasn't done right, the OC 2.0 will degrade over months to the point little or no beading/sheeting is present. When that happens - the jig is up.

The prep was originally done with Optimum polish but the second time around he did menzerna 4500 and an iso wipedown before application.

Prep is hugely essential along with fresh paint. Hyper Polish + Alcohol stripped.

Ok so have been busy as he'll during this christmas season December has been insane. I feel like I'm a month of reading behind on the forums. I do lots of reading......not so posting. I like to give helping advice where I can with the experience I've gained over the years.

Firstly, after reading both your threads in one sitting I've been been through a rollercoaster ride. I can't imagine how upset I would be. Secondly, us here on AG and other similar forums are few against the world. I detail out of Canada eh! And good detailers are a very very rare thing. I can tell you that there is a ridiculous amount of
what happen to you that goes on.

Thirdly, I recommend to end all your frustration and heart ache, you took your lumps, now lets move on and you finish off your car the way only you can.......or bring it to Todd lol. But you already seem to be above the skill level of "noob" and with the help of some of the great advice some pros have giving you from your threads, we can help you with anything you need to maybe remove your nearly completely failing OC2.0 and properly prep and re-install opti or a coating of your choice I can assure you, you will be so happy when your done the job. From the techqnics you told us you practise your new coating will last a long time and you can close the book on this one!!

Hope everything goes well,

Merry christmas,
Jay

^^

Thanks for the reply. When the weather gets a little warmer I am planning on removing the OC (or whatever it is or isnt...) and applying the Black Label coating that I just got.

Definitely a bummer story though, and sadly no good ending is in any way possible considering the time and money spent... Oh well....... Thanks for reading!
