The Art of Detailing - Now Available in Paperback!

Does the book talk about rotary polishing?

As Nick shared, no. When I first started writing I had sections for all the different types of tools but to be real honest it wouldn't do you or anyone any justice to try to come out with a book that covered a wide spectrum of tool. A better approach is to give each "type" of tool the attention it deserves.

Rotary polishing is a book in and of itself. The Art of Detailing focuses on how to master the dual action polisher along with various other aspects of paint care.

Well said Nick.

Also just to comment...

I don't know what kind of experience anyone and everyone that will ever read this thread has in the area of marketing? Here's my point... when writing this book there were a number of goals, one of them was to write a book that would appeal to a large segment of car enthusiasts. If you take a BIG PICTURE view of car detailing and specifically paint polishing, the majority of people in the world have done all of their paint polishing by hand.

When a person does move up to machine polishing the DA style polisher like the Porter Cable 7424XP, Meguiar's G110v2, Griot's Garage 6" ROP and Shurhold DA Polisher is the easiest tool to learn how to use and master (that's two things), and from my involvement in this industry I know for a fact that there are more people out there with DA style polishers polishing their car's paint then there are people with any other type of tool. And the trend is for even more people to move up to to

So when trying to provide a source of information that targets the largest tool specific market of people, the DA style polisher was the first best option for a topic.

I hope that makes sense?

This how-to book is incredibly thorough and detailed and anyone that's been reading my posts on this forum or any discussion forum knows that my normal writing style is to share in-depth information, that's how I teach a class and that's how I type.

I firmly believe that a person that has never used a DA Polisher could read through this book and then walk out into their garage and know exactly what to do and get great result their very first time. The book basically takes the information in my head and puts it into the readers head.

The next step is simply to go out into the garage and put the information to use.

I'm very excited to read it. So I take it you have more books coming out in the future?

I just received my copy of the paperback version of Mike's book today.

Just glancing through it everything looks laid out great with tons of pictures to go along with Mike's great explanations as we all on the online communities have come to expect from Mike over the years. This will be a great book to have for reference in the future. I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing.

As I was glancing through the book I also found some of my photography work (top center of page 35 - Pigtails). It is the pigtail that I accidentally instilled into the paint of my truck 2 years ago while using some cleaner wax on my truck :( . Not my best detailing moment, but with Mike's advice I was able to feathersand and compound out the pigtails - Thanks Mike :props:

Also, thanks for signing the book for me.

Good to hear everyone is enjoying the book so far, I know I sure did. :righton:

Mike signing the book is for a limited time only so get a copy signed by the author himself if you haven't already!
