I think it would be useful to allow the members to edit their posts after they've been submitted, say for 2-3 hours afterward in case there's something they'd like to change. As it is now, once the post is submitted it's written in stone.

I think after 20 minutes it's written in stone. You can always ask a moderator to change it for you.

It can certainly be irritating at times... Sometimes I would like to update a review with new info and am not able to... Just have to post a reply and hope people see it.

Yeah they should keep them open permanently so you can always go back and edit your post.

There are indeed rules in place to avoid deleting and editing posts after some time. We, the mods, however are quite helpful in removing, closing, or editing posts when needed. Just use PM feature as needed ...

What would be a reason to not let people edit their own posts? (Just curious since nothing really comes to mind)

As noted in the rules, all posts here become the property of Autogeek. Members may start or participate in threads which are helpful to large numbers of other members. Sometimes members become disgruntled and decide to delete many or all of their posts, in which case those helpful threads might be damaged or in some cases disappear entirely if the disgruntled member is the original poster.

Also, I'm sure the number of posts and threads is a valuable statistic in valuing the domain and the benefit a potential advertiser or principal might gain from selling products through Autogeek.

Additionally, a member who is a trouble-maker could edit his posts to appear less troublesome, and although this might be evident to moderators, might cause other members to think the trouble-maker was treated unfairly, causing negative publicity for the forum.

Those are just some ideas that come to mind for me, I really don't know what reasons the management has for their policy.

Or delete the post except 1 letter to get rid of the thread.

I wouldn't mind a half hour edit time. With me working nights, sometimes I don't make sense.....

Yeah, it's kind of embarrassing to make a dumb spelling or grammatical error and not catch it within the 20 minute window, I think it's happened to all of us.

I would like to see the grace period extended longer. I do agree with locking them at some point.

This is a topic close to my heart on my last thread "clear coat failure and repair" i messed up posting the pics. i saw the pics on my computer that i was working on, but when i went downstairs and got on my lap top to show the thread to my wife all the before pics weren't there. There was no edit button. This was definitely within 20 min. Because i had up loaded these pics directly from my computer the MOD couldn't do anything about it, and couldn't open an edit for me to change it, so i had to repost the thread. clearly my fault but i didn't get an edit option at all in-fact since then the only place I've seen the edit button come up is when you post a "quick reply".

I dunno, I just edited a thread I started this morning.

But really, I have seen this on other forums, where somebody goes on a bashing spree, and gets banned, but from either their own editing or a moderator sanitizing the thread, all the "bad behavior" gets edited out and then a bunch of members are up in arms because their friend/favorite member got banned for "no reason".

At the end of the day, it's AG's forum and we're just guests here.

funny now i see an edit button on my last post oh well guess i should pay closer attention. now AG is the proud owner of proof of my ignorance. Great ;-)

yup still here that edit button is just taunting me now

Me: "theres no edit button"

Edit Button: "WHAT!" "Hey stupid look down here I've been here for the last 20 min"
