The Force Awakens: Spoilers Allowed! Don't read if you haven't seen the movie!

Taking into consideration I thought the movie was pretty good and I'm a Star Wars fan (although not a fanatic)...
  1. I felt like I was watching A New Hope all over again. I mean...verbatim. I started to feel that way as soon as Poe told BB-8 to escape in the beginning...and was certain about 1/2 way through. It literally was a re-hash of Ep IV, from the "droid with the secret message", to a young orphan on a desert planet, to that same young orphan being able to expertly pilot a spaceship they've never flown with no real training, to the next-gen Death Star's planet-destroying sequence, to Han dying inside the next-gen Death Star in a tense-emotional-father-figure/mentor & son/mentee moment, to the X-Wings destroying the next-gen "Death Star"--there was even a trench they flew into. It was literally Ep. IV with different people.
  2. I knew Han was the major character that was going to die when I heard they had re-cast the Original 3 a year or 2 ago. I remember there being a thing going around years ago that Harrison Ford wanted Solo to die in the original trilogy, so I knew he had to be dying in this one to ensure he'd come back to the francise. He was also the "Obi-Wan-like-mentor-destined-to-die-in-order-for-the-main-protagonist-to-commit-to-Jedi-training" figure of this new trilogy.
  3. The combination of real-world/CGI effects was excellent IMO. Not bothered by the Snoke/Maz characters.
  4. Speaking of Maz, need to learn more about her in the future movies plz.
  5. Was about to jump on some oddities (like Poe stating he escaped from Jakku in a glossed over manner), but then I remember that some of that kind of stuff happened in the original trilogy as well.
  6. I'm hoping they let Max Von Sydow die in the first 2 minutes because they intend to use him in major flashbacks in the next 2 movies. If not, that was a huge waste of an amazing actor.
  7. I'm still not 100% convinced that Snoke = Plagueis. Although they might use parts of his canon for Snoke. They seemed to do the same with "Ben Solo/Kylo" = Jacen Solo.
  8. Rey's storyline might end up being similar to Jaina Solo; in that the trilogy ends with her finishing off Kylo--buuuutttt not before the "Jacen" character of this trilogy kills his mother perhaps?

Yes seeing this movie made me feel old, but in a good way. Wise like Obi Wan. It was very much like seeing friends after 40 years. I was 18 when the original came out. Now, at the ripe old age of 57, it is great that all the young folk will have something to look forward to in 40 more years. May the force be with all of us!

My thoughts:

1. I hope Snoke is Plageuous. I love that character.
2. BB-8 was very likeable- I was not expecting that.
3. Loved the lightsaber effects!
4. My inner star wars nerd wants to over analyze everything, but Im just trying to enjoy it for what it is.

Plot reminded me exactly of ANH like a pp said. That made me sorta bored with it. The characters made it livable.
I didnt like the "new" sound effects for the lightsabers I wish they would have been closer yet to the old ones.
I too went to see ANH when I was 5 so seeing this made me feel quite old. Very cool that the 3 of them are still around and healthy enough to make this movie!

Im excited to see where it goes from here.

So there's a reason why Ren's lightsaber looks and sounds different for almost every other one we've seen on screen. It uses a fractured and unstable kyber crystal. That's the reason for the visual crackling and unique hum. The cross guards aren't just cross guards for the hell of it, either. The crystal is so powerful that it requires lateral venting just to manage it within the weapon properly. Pretty cool.

His name is Luke and I have no idea how I was able to get that name approved by the SO without raising any red flags.
:dblthumb2:

My wife would like me to ask you where you found that picture. We need to get one for my 5 year old jedi.

Ha. I love it. Your wife asked you to ask. Right....

First movie to gross a billion dollars domestic? Unreal!

Here's a good article. It gives a little more depth to story
27 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' questions answered by the novel

Real nice summary of the important reveals in the book. It's just filled with more that helps a lot with context. A couple of things...

6. I'm glad to see this was expanded on. Seeing the destruction of the New Republic in the film was still a little too quick for me.

7. That's definitely helping out the argument for what everyone is speculating about. Snokes is Plagueis. I'm still hoping there is something to surprise us there, but it's definitely looking to be true.

9. I liked seeing this left out of the movie. Would have possibly given away too much if we had heard the voice and not hearing it helps Rey look a little more desperate.

10. I'm reading this differently. Just because she can feel all of that doesn't mean she's as strong as Obi-Wan. There are many diciplines in the Force.

16. This would have been nice to hear in the movie.

17. Phasma was far too underutilized. Sounds like that will be changed in Episode 8.

19. This DEFINITELY should have been shown in the movie. Anything to enforce the bond these two had.

22. This is a major major one. I got that feeling when I watched it on screen, but this solidifies it.

23. Another major one. This is one I'm reading differently than the author who thinks Rey wasn't close to killing Ren. She most definitely was. Watch that scene over again and you can see the Dark Side taking over.

Good point, 7PaintGuns. It's a sign of recognizing our own mortality when we see people and how they've aged.

I'm going with my wife and my father this weekend. My father and mother took me to see ANH back in 1977 when I was 4.

You were FOUR!!!
Holy JESUS... and to think... we were married in 77! :D

....I'm looking forward to the second viewing, which is when I typically pick up on all the minor details and background happenings that I miss the first time around while I concentrate on the plot, story and main characters.

Me too...
I'll even do REAL 3D the second time around. :D

Totally agree. :props: And I've got a year plus on ya', being about 90 some odd days from 59 now. :(

19. I got the impression that there was this moment, albeit briefly. It certainly was clear when Chewie howled and then nailed Ren with his crossbow.

So..Rey is more kin to Obi-wan. And the female voiced "Silver Captain" needs some serious detailing before summer `17's sequel. Maybe some DG www for droids.
