What do they do and when do you use them?

Also, is there a glaze you recommend?

Thanks

Glazes are temporary gloss enhancers. Most glazes have fillers in them that hide the swirls in your paint. They usually don't have any protective properties so they must be topped with a sealant or wax. I use a glaze when I don't want to spend hours polishing and when my paint has literally no swirls. Just when my paint needs some more gloss. I wouldn't use one a daily driver being that a sealant or wax cannot properly bond on top of the glaze. But using it on a show car would be a great idea before a show.

I use Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze with a black pad on my Porter Cable on speed 5. I know CG's Glossworks is described as EZ Creme Glaze in steroids.

Is it true that a glaze reduces the bonding of the wax ?

I would have to say no. Back in the old Meg's days, you polished/glazed/waxed. It became a little more complicated in the sealant era, when you had sealants with no cleaners in them (say Klasse SG) which wouldn't bond to the oily glaze surface. But things like Wet Glaze and Poorboy's Black Hole and White Diamond shouldn't be a problem under a sealant (well...maybe one as finicky as KSG).

Mike I almost feel like I owe you tuition from the stuff I learned from your articles. Thank you the information that you give out freely it has made this a lot easier to get into than I thought.

I also use Chemical Guys EZ-Creme which is suppose to enhance the gloss and depth of the paint. After I finish polishing is when I use it. After this would be the sealant or wax. I like it because I don't have to do an IPA wipedown.
