Making an appointment to check out the hood latch on the phone: Anything else? Me: "Do not wash the car instructions". Her: "so you want to add the car wash option." Me: No, do NOT! wash. Her: pause for 2 seconds, "oh ok don't wash the car".

Driving up, pull out laminated do not wash sheet for dash, laminated mirror hang tag, and color printed sheet on front passenger seat.

See my friend who knows I can detail my car. "Be like 30 - 35 , and I'll run it through the wash". Me: "No .. no don't do that." Friend: "oh don't wash."

Yeah, what is it with dealerships that all have a fetish for washing cars? Do they get some kickback from the water company? I once had a dealership practically insist that they had to wash the car because it was part of their service plan. Like they couldn't do the repairs unless I agreed to wash the car.

The mechanics can only work on a scratched car, don't you know the rules ?

For those that might not know what he's talking about...

DON'T WASH CAR !!!!!!!!!!!

:)

It's stressful for me because my dad always takes my car in(I'm only 17 so I'm in school during day and can't go with)and it makes me nervous that I'm not there to make sure it doesn't get washed. I give my dad my laminated signs and hope for the best!

Ya, when I purchased my new car last summer I gave them specific instructions about not washing the car. not removing plastic protective films and so on... they were like: "You want us to give you the car dirty and with plastics on it???" Yes, that's right. I will prep it myself. So they wrote it down on the contract.

I get the call to come pick up the car... it's been washed and none of the protective stuff is on it. I spent 15 minutes going around it looking for swirls or damage... luckily there was none.

They just can't help themselves.

My dealer is familiar with me. I let them know if they do not wash my car I will make sure when their review comes they will receive ALL excellent reviews.

So far the last 4 years have been fine!!

But kudos to you for keeping up your guns!!

I think it has something to do with how they pay the employees piecework. The last car I ordered from the factory, I told them I didn't need the prep and wanted them to leave the plastic on the car, and the salesman thought they couldn't do that because the prep guys weren't going to get paid, but he went and talked to the sales manager who said it was ok.

However, it's certainly part of that "concierge service" to make you feel special about yourself and your car.

There's a easy remedy, any carwash guy who looks at the no wash sign and decides to wash anyway should be fired for no common sense.Tell your 140k a year service director not to wash the car simple.

Because on most surveys sent out by the manufacturer, they ask if the car was washed or returned in clean condition. Dealers get money back from those surveys.

There called CSI scores.everyone gets a bonus at the end of the month.

LMAO - great post!

I work at the dealership (parts), so I drive my car in and out of the service bays when work is to be done. We don't even have an auto car wash. We have "detailers", but that's only for new/used car deliveries.

I work at a dealership also and for those of you that do also, you know the mentality of a lot attendant. You can look them in the eye and tell them something and when you turn around they forgot what you told them. My life everyday.

When I take my GC in for service I request the service coordinator sign a waiver that states that if they wash my car the are responsible for $500.00 to have a professional detailer restore the paint, it gets their attention for sure. :buffing:

Friend of mine just did a full detail on his wife's Patriot. She took it to the dealer for an oil change... Yep they washed a perfectly pristine vehicle anyway. He was too upset to call. So I did..... Sometimes I just feel good telling others how fing stupid they are.
