I work in a building with a ton of people, and a ton of cars. My cubicle is right at the window and everyday, i see this van with 3 mexican guys. 1 is the boss and the other 2 are the slaves. The 2 slaves just slam out cars fast inside and out, like 10 minutes a car, wash and vacuum. I swear they do countless cars a day. They come through the parking lot 2-3 times a day. They charge $10 for "wash, vacuum, armor all tires and armor all dash, chamois dry" they say

They pretty much do all the cars in the whole big center. I just wonder how can i possible compete with these guys, given i only do it on weekends. They'll take up one huge spot in the parking lot with a ton of cars to do. I wonder how much the slaves are getting paid, especially after that bust at that big car wash in LA last week. For those that dont know, the workers are all mexican, and they dont get paid hourly, only tips

How is their work?

There used to be a guy at my work who came around with a 16oz cup of water and a dirty rag and people actually paid him to wash their cars. Either they didn't know what he was using, or they were just that ignorant, but I'm talking full FL sun in a hot asphalt parking lot. His cars looked better dirty. He left more damage than any of those cars had ever known. Maybe that's why I don't see him around anymore.

What does that fact that they are mexican have to do with it?

Bottom line they are selling a sub par service and seem to have your work lot nailed down and you want to know how you can compete- still dont see how them being mexican adds anything to the story...

OT: to compete with & win customers from this operation you need to identify what sets you apart from them and capitolize on that....

In short.....they have that business because those people are cheap and not because they are Mexicans.

Out here in LA, the mexicans will do a $100 job for $10, so how does a detailer who actually loves doing it, compete with the mexicans who just do it because it's a job?

I gaurantee you they do not offer what I offer.. until you can tell yourself that and clearly communicate that to others you will not be able to take one of their customers

Simply saying "they dont do what I do" is not enough, you need to know and be able to explain "why you"

djrazr, even though I am not of ethnicity in question I am extremely offended by your statements, starting with how you titled this thread, because they smell of stuff that does not have a place in civilized society and thus do not belong on this board.

I was under the impression that the "mex" question tied into the "how much are they getting paid" question, since the post revolves around the price of the service. I agree with the other posts that the mention of race here has negative implications. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt, however.

You could advertise that you correct cheap wash jobs. Maybe they are actually generating business.

Ethnicity has nothing to do with how much they are getting paid. They could have been of any ethnicity, that would not have changed how much customers are willing to pay. How much customers are willing to pay is what dictates how much goes to "salaries of workers". Think of it when you go to nearest fast food place. You are going there because you are not willing to pay more than few bucks for your food. So how then you could expect workers there would be paid as workers in $100+ per meal restaurant. They can not be. It is simple math and logic that dictates it, it is buyer of services that dictates it, not ethnicity of seller. If buyer was willing to pay more for better service I guarantee to you seller would gladly provide better service. As always, YOU get what YOU pay for.

Going to close, please lets not offend other races, you can easily reword this post or approach with a different angle. A few members have contacted me and are insulted and I do not blame them.
Thank you.
