There is a quite extenesive review somewhere online, but I can't seem to remember where.
This is where the Law of Diminishing Returns come into play. The more you put the less positive output it brings.
I think I remember reading somewhere that anything after 3 is just wasting time. I personally wouldn't go past 2 and sometimes I wouldn't even do that.

That's a great scientific thread, he pretty much came up with anything after 2 coats is a waste.
