with the forced rotation (consistent pad rotation) and plethora of pads/polishes/compounds out these days, it may not be needed from flex's standpoint. i'm sure they would of jumped on it already if they felt so..

This one was over-hyped. I think that's the problem. On the unveiling, my thought was "Wait, can't I get something similar at the home depot?"
Don't get me wrong, I love my 3401, but this was under-whelming IMO.
I don't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. I thought something innovative would be unveiled. Whaap..Whaa...
This one was over-hyped. I think that's the problem. On the unveiling, my thought was "Wait, can't I get something similar at the home depot?"

while i could be wrong, i think this is all we can expect (polisher wise) from flex. one thing i noticed with them is they seem to be pretty conservative...

Looks like a very nice small machine. I could have used it this week while working on a neglected Town Car that was rough, pictures to follow. Results were good using my 3401 but I worked my butt off correcting everything.
I almost broke out my old rotary several times but was determined to do all of the work with the DA. All of us rotary guys know how much faster correction takes place compared to a DA with foam.
From now on I will be using a rotary for the first correction and then switch to the 3401 for the second and final corrections and applying wax. This will be a perfect combination.
I put it on my wish list and think I will get both of the smaller Flex rotaries to replace my old heavy Vector.
Looks real good to me and those of you who don't know how to use a rotary should learn and your work will get done a lot quicker and with less hard work. Thanks Mike and Flex, your quality is second to none!

I like this new buffer a lot. I LOVE rotary's period. Mike hit the nail on the head w/'precision' being the key word. Surgical is another key word. It seems that many of you that favor DA were expecting just that. No doubt such a tool is in the work's.......after all that would complete the line up. Learn how to use a rotary, it's your roots.

I love my PE 14 with it's 600 rpm starting speed , great for spreading polish and refining and to be honest I would never buy a full size rotary with a starting speed of 1300 rpm so why would I buy a mini one .
Also don't they allready do a very similar product L 1503 VR .

After doing a bit of research on this new machine, I found that Flex just released a model at the Frankfurt AutoMechanika tool show. This one is called the SUPRAFLEX SE 14-2 125.

Now this looks like a much more ergonomically friendly unit and a much better usable rpm range (600-2100) like its bigger brother the PE14. This I would really love to see with the much smaller head like the PE14. Now if only it had a trigger on the bottom side and the thumb wheel on the side.

What I should have said is,
A LOT of representatives from a lot of companies from around the USA and the world read this forum.
Some of you have been in the forum world for a long time and are known by your forum nickname, some of you not so long.
Without getting and deeper but as a way to try to help out just a little, especially for anyone in the forum world that likes to project a professional image, (hopefully both online and offline), here's a little article I wrote a few years ago....

Great addition, for sure. It's ENORMOUS differential is the really small size and lightweight. Feel like a small toy in your hands, performs like a professional level tool - backgrounded by Flex.

In fact, seems like every member of this forum had a better idea than what was engineered (Note: I'm in agreement with the ideas shared, sure, also had mine!).
I'm seeing we acting like stylists in a cloth showdown. Think about exotic, tendencies...
On the other hand, this is not the extravagance we see everyday on the streets. Got it?
By the way, I feel that we all expected to see the 'Evolution in the tool Action', be it adjustments in the throw, speed settings, ergonomics, or any other improvement helping towards doing the job better, but also 'Safer', and without imprinting holograms or risking burning through the paint (if possible, please).
I mean, there are plenty of rotary tools already in the market with an 'universal Thread and extension' that will spin diverse sized pads like a rotary tool should. It's just hard to become excited with the latest re-release of the wheel... no way I'm discouraging PE8, on the right hands it definitively will deliver. Just another tool and we can never have too many Quality tools!
Comparing Apples to Oranges, the Rupes mini and MF pads are closer to what I was expecting to see this time; (but that's just, me!)

Agree. Doing big boats or rvs is exhausting with big rotary and you can't get big wool pads in every corner. I see a place in my arsenal for it.

I'm excited Flex went with a rotary and didn't follow Rupes small da. The rotary is better for precision work and you'll get better cut in those tight areas. I do like the ability to feather the rpm's and wish that were an option. I guess I'll stick with my drill for a rotary in tight places. Still nice to have the option.

I really like the size, the design and the small pad for getting into though spots. When comparing buffer pad size we have to consider the ratio of rpm to inches per second at the outside circumference of the pads. I assume Flex adjusted the speed to compensate for the small diameter of the buffer pads, 3" compared to 7" or 8".
If they will add a variable speed trigger, looks to me like the machine would be perfect in a small size.
In a rotary, for me, the advantage of a variable speed trigger is to minimize sling off of the product I am using. I have always seen this problem as the main disadvantage of rotary buffers. I hate getting compound all over me and the windshield, plastic and chrome etc. and also don't especially enjoy masking off a vehicle like I'm painting it. Being able to spread the product out at a slower speed to minimize sling off is really important to me.
