The new mf polishing pads?

Detailers Domain has a 5" backing plate with the cooling holes.

I just looked at those backing plates and if you read the description, they pretty much say exactly what I posted above about the MF discs staying cooler and lasting longer. Great post ski2!!

Attn: Autogeek... we need some of these vented 5" backing plates here in your store as well...

Nice I'm about to order some mf pads myself. Seems to be 50/50 going with megs or lc. Do the mf pads just work better with smat or are they just as good using with say v36? Thanks

I've only ever used SMAT products with them, I'm curious to see how others answer your question though. For the record...I like the LC better now that I've been using them for a while, though I think the Meg's do cut a little faster, but I think they also self destruct a little faster too.

Thanks for the info Dave!! Seems like u know alot of things I'd like to know or learn about detailing for dealerships. Man I got a million questions I bet u could answer.. ha..

Here's one. I get they don't care about the bells and whistles just want it to look good.. as far as polishing goes, your right I'll want to cut as much time as possible so an AIO is defendant.
So using my PC do u think the mf pads offer a good AIO? Something that could remove light swirls oxidation water marks and so on... if so that's what I'm sure I'll be doing most of.
So in your opinion what is the best combo to go with? (Hoping to stay with mf pads if possible) which pad and what product? As far as I know there's only 2 mf pads. Cutting and finish, right?
So what would be the right pad and a good yet cost effective product to go with.. keep in mind I don't mind not making AS MUCH profit as possible if the AIO is producing a really fine beautiful finish..

This has me thinking. I've got several 5" plates sitting around, time to break out the drill press and some hole boring bits.

They actually don't even care about it looking good. They just want it to look different than when it came in. Depending on the type of dealership, type of car. If it's a mixed lot used car lot, (rather than a specialized brand, IE their own type cars) their 'standard' will be much less than say if they offer CPO (Certified Pre Owned) cars.

Keep that in mind when you're doing the work. If they are the typical 'beaters' then the faster the better. Knock off the dirt, hit the high spots, spray the tires and move on.

For the 'front line' cars you should be asking the guys what they want, SHOW them there are different levels you can achieve. (Not that they'll want to pay any more for one vs the other.) But if you can get it, then by all means DO get it. ;)

With the AIO, there are many different levels of AIO, some do a better job of finishing than others, some cut better. What one guy likes, another might not like at all, or may have never tried. Get several, try them all. Find what you like and use it, use it a lot and use it often. With the MF pads you'll get good cut no matter so that'll be easy. It's entirely possible to correct most cars with 205 just by changing around your pads. That's one reason I like to have both the 'cutting' and 'finishing' pads. Not that the latter will get NEAR as much work as the first one but you never know. :) They'll be LSP ready and then hit them with a decent spray wax and be done with it. (Or a WOWA sealant for that matter, just that they cost a LOT more.)

I'm not a big AIO user when it comes to working with MF pads. I find that they tend to get all gummy and saturated with the wax portion of what's in a lot of AIO products. The one exception I have experience with is Duragloss #501. It does a nice job of beautifying the paint while still leaving the MF pads relatively clean after each set of section passes.

I find that working with a SMAT compound (see above posting) followed by a coat of UPGP produces the quickest results at removing a majority of moderate swirls while still finishing nice enough for the lot and the UPGP will quickly coat a car and being a wipe on walk away product it's just so fast and trouble free and a 12 ounce bottle will probably do 100 cars. My choice to use the UPGP is not so much about the look it results in (which is very nice) but about ease of use, the fact that it's clear so it works well with trim and that it just saves so much time. I simply have no desire to try anything else because it's proven to me.

If I do use an AIO which I do often, I use my Flex 3401 and a foam finishing or foam polishing pad depending on the test spot in the beginning of the job. Usually the Subarus get the finishing pad and the GMs, Fords and Chryslers get the polishing pad. My AIO of choice isn't sold here at AG so I haven't brought the short video here from youtube.

I tried the MF finishing disc that came in the Meg's MF starter kit I bought here at AG and I have never bought another finishing disc. IMO they're useless to buy because they really do nothing different from the cutting disc.

What is ugup?

Not sure there is anything "new" about MF buffing pads...but they are pretty much standard equipment for compounding with a DA polisher.

I was smoking MF discs and backing plates both, then I did break out the drill bits and drilled my Meg's backing plate. That was the end of the backing plate and MF disc burnouts. Shortly after that I found the closeout on the 3M 5" vented DA backing plates for $5 each and bought all six of them.

Ultima Paint Guard Plus, paint sealant, liquid wax, paint sealer, car wax sealant

Don't let the initial price fool you, you'll easily make it up in time over 1 week of applications in a production setting, and the 12 ounce bottle will last you all summer long.

When I look it up its in a spray bottle is that the right stuff?
Also Dave I am about to make a $250 order. And I've been thinking on what you said about what the dealer will be looking for production more so than quality. (Although I want to provide the best shine I can within that area)
So I was wondering if maybe you could help me out with my order..
Here is what I need:
Car wash
Dressing (interior & exterior like tires)
Apc (I have megs d101) like it
I'd like some trim resterorer (better than mothers b2b)
5in PC backing plate
Pads (prefer mf pads
Product for dealership (AIO I assume)
Drying products.

And something for my personal use brand new black car. It has light swirls from dealership.
I'd like to get a few things that I could use on regular customers cars to.

Can u help?
I'll pm u my phone # cause I know this may be a lot to answer.

I have never burn a baking plate with MF pads but I have had the pads fall apart .Cause no one has figure out how to stop the glue from coming a part.

Justin, it was nice speaking with you on the phone. I hope it helps you get started off on the right foot.

Holy crap that's NASTY!

So the drill bit thing worked out I take it? I was wondering about the holes not being 'clean' and if it'd even matter. I could take it to a local metal fab shop and have them cut holes, or slots for that matter, with a Flojet. (Then again they'd probably charge $100 to do it.)
