So since most of you really take pride in maintaining your cars, it is important to keep yourself and your cars safe while on the road...a place filled with inexperienced drivers who are constantly side-tracked/distracted with other things.

Please read this article on Car & Driver as it will greatly help prevent an accident caused by yourself...and even recommend it to some of your friends and family to ensure their safety as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

How To: Adjust Your Mirrors to Avoid Blind Spots - Feature - Car and Driver

I remember reading that article and trying it their "recommended way" the next drive to work. I hated it. It was so disorienting not being able to see at least a little slice of my car when looking in the side mirrors. It totally makes sense to adjust them that way... I just can't. For now I just lean forward a little bit to see my blind spots when changing lanes.

I saw this in another thread. I'm going to give it a try. The Camaro has bad blind spots!!

I learned this in driving school. I still don't use it though

Yup, saw that one too. Although I read it years before C&D did the article. I've been using the method for at least 10 years now and feel really weird when I'm driving one of my other family cars that don't have the mirrors set to 'wide'.

I started driving flatbed car haulers in 85 and came to rely on the door mirrors much more than in the 15 years of driving before that. (even though the trucks all had a real rear view mirror, yet you can't see anything out of it when a car is on the truck)

I've been trying to get my wife to do it for YEARS but she wont budge. My daughter OTOH uses a modified version and it's helped her a ton. Now if I can only get my son to do it just a little more (he's close but not there yet) then I figure 3 outta' 4 ain't bad.:props:

This is one of those topics you don't expect to turn into a religious war but this mirror setting has probably saved my ass at least a few dozen times.

My wife is not yet convinced. Maybe I should "fix" the mirrors and pull the fuse.

Ya well I was kind of hoping I could create a movement out of this, similar to what the Europeans did to the Native Aboriginals up here in Canada  Kidding of course

But I like your idea with the fuse :P
