The One That Got Away

My second car was a loaded '76 GP SJ. black w/red int. Ralley II's. They were great cars. In many of my dreams I'm driving, and it's always that car.

That combo must have been beautiful! Mine was a dove gray respray (original color was found to be dark grey metallic) with a black leather interior. Ralleye II's here as well, with RWL BFG Radial T/A's on all 4 corners. Shortly after I bought it, it was treated to a set of KYB shocks and a Caddy sway bar and for its size, it rode and handled superbly. The only bad thing I remember about it was the guaranteed third degree butt-burn getting in after parking with the tops off, but back then I couldn't have cared less. Good times!

I remember that butt burning well when I had the targa top off my other one(see #7). Arctic white with blk leather. Some things are easy to tolarate.

I never knew they had changed the grill on the Ranchero to the more pointed style from the 76.
Yeah, 77 to its death in 79 was the stacked headlights and pointed front end. Cab and bed were relatively the same from 72-79 with only the front clips changing.

The 2 I miss the most......

67 SS/RS
80 Z/28 (highly modified)

I got into a english kick for awhile

76 TR6 bought in shambles....actually brought it home (with several trips) in the back of a truck, assembled and driven daily......then sold.....then bought back...then sold again.

'90 RGV 250 Gamma.

Never should have sold it. Had 3 bikes at the time, and was too busy to deal with maintenance. Such a narrow & nimble machine; like a motorized bicycle.

My 76' Silver Stingray. The last thing I remember "Honey, lets sell your Vette and build a house. We'll get you another Vette later". That was 24 years ago.

68 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.........traded it for a 30 Ford 5 window coupe. Wish I still had both of them.

73 dodge charger, traded it in, found out a couple months later that it hit a highway sign at 100+mph. The car was totaled, the dummy driving survived.

Believe it or not, my 1989 Honda CRXsi. Super light, no power anything (except sunroof), 32mpg no matter how hard i drive it and a blast to drive. I put 100K on that car in 3 years and never had one problem with it. I loved that car.

A 64 1/2 first edition Mustang the wife owned when we got married.

Not that the car was THAT great, actually it wasn't. Remember it WAS a Falcon with a neat body style.

But it is what the market value became. She paid just over $2K for it new and now worth a bit more.

Yep, that happened to me, when I got married I had a 75 Vette and a 87 Monte Carlo SS (I know not much muscle but I like the looks). I got rid of both for my house (Wife also said you will get another one later.) which I lost sevral years ago when I lost my job and a lot of income. So looking back I probably would have sold the cars for money later anyways. But now I have nothing. I also had an 81 Trans Am with a turbo that I liked. I wrapped that one around a pole. (Ouch)

This one is the one that got away for me: 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS

She is the one that set the "detailing bug" firmly into me. I've always had a love for cars but when we got this one, it almost willed me into learning anything and everything I could do to keep her looking her absolute best. Kept her exterior unchanged while I did just about everything I could to her engine, supercharger, etc...
Got hit twice, once t-boned during a blizzard by a kid driving recklessly in the snow through a stop sign and then totaled by a drunken driver 2 years ago. Think about that car everyday.:(

Here is a butt shot of the Cobalt SS parked next to my fathers 69' Chevelle Malibu SS. That car has won more "Best of Paint" and "Best of Show" trophies in hundreds of shows dating back to the early 90's including World of Wheels New England and Summer Nationals in Worcester.:dblthumb2: Sorry for the low quality picture.

Its a shame he survived, what a waste of such a beautiful car.

76 Camaro my first car in high school fire engine red 4 speed 400 sb love that car. Had it until 13 years ago this month when I moved from Ohio to Alabama. Left the car in my brothers care while I settled. I would check the local paper back home online, one day I seen my brothers name for a public action on a storage unit $&@! , it was to late the action had already taken place and yes my Camaro was in the unit ... I still have the title ... I tried to get it back legal red tape.... I still miss it, and yes I have forgiven my brother ...
