I was listening to the Jimmy Beffet song, "Overkill" in my head and thought up an idea for a thread:

Does anyone ever have a detail process that's basically overkill; for ex: Using a coating system, then a sealant, hybrid, and carnauba wax (I haven't used a coating system yet, so I'm not sure this would even work.) Or putting down 50 coats of wax.
Feed back please

This is my contribution:

I found that after cleaning tires, saturating the sidewalls of tires with 303 AP (by applying the AP very heavy) and letting it sit for 30-40 minutes, then wiping the excess, and finishing them off with WG BDTG (and letting the gel cure) give the tires an esp. nice look. But I know this is overkill. I found that letting the 303 AP set on the tires lets the 303 displaces embedded grim from the pores back onto the surface of the sidewall. So when I wipe the excess I get a little bit of brown residue on the MF. Then the WG BDTG just looks way better than 303...

The tire dressing battle is one I've been at war with for years. If you can ever figure it out, let me know and report back your findings

I have put 6 layers of Sourveran on my car.....fun, Yes, but I didn't notice a bit of difference after the second coat. I am also beginning to think that some of tape jobs are overkill.

I'm telling you this stuff is like crack. Always chasing that first hit

I hardly use tape at all. I am either really lucky, or perhaps, just that damn good ;)

Now, I'm off to the ball game. You guys keep the place in check untill I return :bolt:

What are you looking for with tire dressing? Shine? Matte? Semi-Gloss?

I'm getting some ARO this week, gonna try it and PERL out on the tires...I'll start a thread or do a product review on the results.:props:

Although, I doubt the finish on the PERL will match WG BDTG.

Me personally, I like nothing on my tires. Just the wheel wells. Others I know, want it as shiny as I can possibly get it

For a nice matte look, "premium blue" works great. I get it from the local PRO distributor.

If u just spray it on and leave it then yes it slings. I usually walk around and spray all 4 tires and let it sit for a minute, then come back and wipe all the tires with a rag and it's a nice matte finish

Not a big fan of wiping the tyre after applying. Never can achieve an even flow

I am putting Opti-coat on my "daily beater". I am doing a 105/205/PO85rd process including where the painted panels wrap around under the car. BTW the car is white. I am not even sure I can see the difference after using PO85rd on the visible surfaces. Talk about overkill

I guess my only overkill is my Cobra that gets 2-3 coats of CG Blacklight, followed by 2-3 coats BFWD, topped with 2-3 coats of Souverän, and then wiped with Duragloss Aquawax.

and i thought i was the only one with issues.... nice to know im not alone in this world! :grouphug:

thanks i will try the 303 saturation. i have started using the tuff shine wheel protectant. only two weeks in but they still look good after 2 weeks of solid rain here in oregon. finish is really matte which i like anyway. they say good for up to 6 months. we will see.

My neighbors think everything I do to my car is overkill. From using grit guards to using the foam gun. The only thing I do to my car that I consider overkill is removing wheels at least once a month to give them a thorough cleaning and lsp.

i dont consider that overkill. ive met people who've told me that they wash their car every 3 months or more and that they get lucky when it rains.... i just can seem to understand these people.
