IT MOVES!! :D

Took it for some much-needed exercise after work today, and I wasn't easy on the poor thing. As the orchardists pruned their fruit trees, I belted along my favorite road, the big 4.0 rasped it's way to the 6,000rpm red line, the brakes getting a bit too hot for their liking.

Two things, the Barra isn't especially happy over those last 200-300 rpm, it's best work done between 4,000 and 5,500 rpm, with the rev limiter set at 6250 rpm. And those brakes are crap, getting stinky with little provocation! I would do something about it if I knew how. Typical Ford thing really, no doubt they were cheap, but they are simply not strong enough for the weight of the big Falcon.

The brakes on my Shelby GT 350 bite like crazy. Unfortunately they squeak once in awhile. Which is common and have crazy amounts of brake dust. I'll be replacing them eventually.

I have the Performance Pack brakes on my Mustang, standard on all Australian delivered Mustang GT's. Apart from the engine, those 6-piston Brembo's are the best part of the car. They bite pretty hard on initial application, but that small tradeoff is nothing in the grand scheme of things, I love the fact I'm not left wanting for brakes in that car.

The XR8 also has front Brembo calipers, in stunning red, although these are the 4-piston version. Ford did offer a 6-piston front, 4-piston rear package but they were not available on this model. The car is very heavy at 1861 kg (4102 lbs), so it's brakes only just handle the speed this car is capable of.

The Jaguar has pretty basic spec brakes, single piston sliders all round, but they seem to hold up under pressure, although they do get pretty stinky after a few hefty applications.

My XR6 is the weak one in the pack when it comes to brakes. The specs are just not up to the weight of these cars. The front caliper is a twin piston slider, clamping only 298mm vented disks. The rears are tiny single pistons acting on 303mm solid disks. The car weighs 1710 kg (3858 lbs) and that braking package, while fine at tootling around town, is just so weak, getting hot and bothered after one or two decent hits.

The fix would be to fit the Turbo models larger front calipers and 322mm disks, also fitted to the SUV version of the Falcon (Territory). The next step would be to fit Brembo's from an XR8. I'm useless on the tools so would have to farm it out to an expert. Doable, but something I will probably sleep on for now.

Went to the auto parts shop today, looking at replacement LED Light Bars, the "spot" leds in the centre of mine have stopped working. The question is, do I go expensive brand, and have it last longer, cheap eBay and get around 2 years before it fails , or even pull this apart and figure out what went wrong. Anyway, when I came out, the Chevy was parked next to me, photos don't do it justice, the FJ looked tiny next to it

Thank you guys and I must say the others were quite neglected. Another Perf Blue EN showed up and the rims looked like they attended a track day...maybe it did There was also a white KN, black Sonata N-line and modded ES.

Wheel-Shot

Have enjoyed the car for the nearly two years I've had it. Enjoyed having 3 other cars that allow it to sit in the garage avoiding rain and snow too. Makes keeping her clean so much easier :xyxthumbs:

Can’t believe it’s been 2 years. Seems like it was just 6 months ago you posted about getting it….
